If you want a hotel full of character, the Royal Oak in Rosthwaite is the place to be! Unchanging in a fast moving modern world, it's a haven of old-fashioned virtues. The welcome and friendliness and efficiency of the staff was exceptional, our last visit nearly 10 years ago and yet here we were being welcomed as part of the Royal Oak family. Our room in the annexe (just as we remembered it!) was spacious, clean and extremely comfortable (thankfully still no TV) and the lounge with open fire and bar as welcoming as ever - the place where we were able to exchange our walkers tales with equally friendly guests or 'mine host.' The food was as we remembered, home-cooked delicious 4 course dinners in the evening and excellent full English breakfasts straight from the Aga to sustain us on the fells! Packed lunches, which are good, are available but a little expensive?
Easy to park and many walks for all abilities in the area - no need to use the car for a week.
If you want to enjoy a touch of the past and a true Lakeland experience, it is unbeatable!
P.S. Wi-Fi and a TV available in lounge at back of hotel if you suffer withdrawl symptoms.
