Return visit after 6 years. Perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Rooms are void of tv or radio Wi-Fi or phone reception. For me that is perfect. Time for friends and family. Hotel is dog friendly, car was parked and not moved for the 5 days there. 7+ beautiful walks straight from the hotel. Evening meal is home cooked. Starter, main meal, dessert, cheese board, fruit, coffee and chocolate. Staff are friendly and welcoming. They will ensure all your needs are met or catered for. You could not ask for anything more.

Here’s a place we would definitely stay in again. It had a hotel feel in terms of size and amenities, but had the warmth of a cozy B&B. A large, comfortable room overlooking a flowing stream welcomed us. The bathtub was wonderful after a hard day’s hike. Dinner was delicious, and we got to know many other hikers over our meal.

WiFi was somewhat limited in that you have to go to a particular lounge to be able to use it, but since it wasn’t pouring rain, it was a very minor inconvenience.

We’d especially like to thank Susan for all her help. You took very good care of us, Susan!

Spent a night here, walking the Cumbria Way. If you like something different, book the Royal Oak. The welcome is very friendly, the hotel is a bit quirky but comfortable, and food is really good. Having everyone eating at the same time and sharing coffee together in the lounge afterwards makes a solo traveller feel very welcome.

Thanks for sharing your positive experience.
Although we are slowly expanding our Wifi coverage we still hope to keep the main lounges Wifi free zones. So many guests tell us how special the opportunity to meet and talk with others actually is.

We recently stayed here whilst walking C2C. Almost directly on the route, it is a charming old fashioned hotel. We were warmly welcomed on arrival at this family run business and shown to our room. Whilst not that large, it was more than adequate for our needs with en suite facilities.

Being an old property, it has several small communal rooms though Wi-fi is only fully accessible in the tv room. Mobile phone signals are also hit and miss in the area with vodaphone the best provider.

Dinner is a set menu and served at 7.30 every night. Whilst no choice, the food was excellent. Breakfast at 8 was also very good with a full English cooked breakfast as well as yoghurt and fruit.

All the staff were friendly and helpful and this is certainly a good place to break your journey whether on C2C or the Cumbrian Way.

A friend and I went to this lovely venue after a long day of scrambles in the fells. Tired and hungry, we walked into this small Inn and were welcomed by warm smiles and the kindest attentions from a lovely lady.
Food was excellent and of top quality, everything seems to be locally sourced and the staff is very attentive to food waste, showing extreme respect for the local area.

If you want ot feel like home, definitely visit this place!
