Every year a group of 12 or so friends and I go on a ramble to various parts of the country, and inevitably we stop and eat and plenty of places enroute, and whilst on the ramble itself. On the way home we stopped at the George and Dragon for lunch.
My friends were instantly drawn to the 'credit crunch' menu, which was 2 courses for £5. There was plenty of choice and all the food arrived in good time. Between us we had the Plaice Goujons (with what seemed to be home made tartar sauce), steak pie, fishcake, and hash - all the meals came with chips and vegetables (there were plenty, and we were asked if we required more). Without exception we all enjoyed the food and thought it was first class, for the money.
The sweets were also met with delight - One note of caution - if you are thinking of your weight, or calorie counting then don't have the 'Hanky Panky!' It was delicious but I daren't think how many calories it contained!!
The staff who served us were really pleasant and seemed to appreciate our custom.
And an added bonus - the beer was reasonably priced and again of good quality.
If you are travelling on the A38 near Burton upon Trent I recommend you call in and give it a try - you won't be disappointed!!
