“A Couple of Tips”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

The entrance and lobby are luxurious, but don’t be surprised if you are assigned a room in a separate, more modest building. We were in the McGuffey Building (as in the McGuffey Reader) with a book-theme. The outer doors have seen better days and one whiff of the well-used “smoker’s outpost” might make you question your choice of hotels, but don’t be discouraged. And don’t look for an elevator to the second floor because there isn’t one.

We selected the Henry Ford package that includes two tickets per person to either the museum, Greenfield Village, or factory tour. That’s two tickets per person, per day. What a deal! We arrived well before check-in time, but were able to pick up our tickets at the hotel and head over to do a half-day at Greenfield Village. We were staying three nights, and after questioning me as to how many Henry Ford tickets we actually needed, the helpful desk clerk suggested a more inexpensive rate for the third night to save money and avoid having extra tickets. (We did Greenfield Village in a day and a half, the museum in one day, and the factory tour the morning we checked out.)

We left our car parked at the hotel and took the complimentary shuttle to and from The Henry Ford. You do a lot of walking and it helps to not have to walk to the parking lot after a long day.

The breakfast buffet (included in the package rate) was awesome. We ate dinner at the restaurant one night, and at the bar the other two nights. The bar is a little more casual.

The pool was wonderful. Extremely large and well maintained.

We loved the historic aspect of the hotel, including a curious abandoned building frozen in time.

We had no issues with the room itself, but there was some door slamming and loud, late-night talking in the hallways, but it’s not the hotel’s fault. I suspect this is more of an issue on the weekend, when they host a lot of weddings.

All in all, a very satisfactory experience.

The hotel goes back to the 1930's and the decor reflects its past. It has obviously been modernized, but still retains the flavor of the 30's. We ate in the tavern and our hostess could not have been more cordial or helpful. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced, considering the quantity. The staff were all helpful & friendly. The only disappointment was the room. It was clean & comfortable, but EXTREMELY small. There was barely enough room to move around without banging into the furniture. If you plan on going there, you should ask what the square footage of the room is that you are planning on using. Our room was approximately 110 S/F and that is being generous.

We first stayed at the Dearborn Inn more than 40 years ago. It is a lovely now as it was then. The staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed for three days and enjoyed the property and area. The hotel is within one-half mile from the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village and the Ford Factory tour. The grounds of the hotel are lovely. We enjoyed our meals in the restaurant.
The area is very safe. Each day I walked from the hotel past the Henry Ford/Greenfield Village to Michigan Avenue. Excellent sidewalks. Michigan Avenue has many restaurants, a wonderful fresh food market and night clubs. We are returning there again in October prior to a flight to Italy.

Room Tip: We always try to stay on the upper floors. Quiet and close to the lounge for Marriott Platiunm and...

This hotel is situated only a few blocks from the Henry Ford Museum. You can even hear the train whistle. There is a great restaurant in the hotel with affordable meals. We ate lunch during our stay and really enjoyed all the offerings. Everything we ordered was delicious. The hotel grounds are huge. We stayed in a basic king bed room that wasn't large, but we weren't in the room for much time. It was adequate for what we needed. Everything was clean, the bathroom still had the historic tile in it which added to the ambiance. We also saw inside one of the cottages which was very nice. It is beautiful and the perfect place for a family or group to stay.

This historic property has been kept true to its roots while obviously updated and current in every way. Staying here was a treat and I felt like it was the "best of both worlds", i.e. character with giving up technology. Rooms were generously sized with very high ceilings, small but adequate closet and bathroom, large flat screen TV, and multiple places to plug in electronics. King size bed was very comfortable, and windows even opened a few inches for some fresh air. I would stay at this hotel any opportunity I had.

Room Tip: Corner rooms provide two windows.

Beautiful and spacious king suite overlooking the colonial homes. Quiet even though there were several weddings going on. Ate at both the Tavern and Restaurant; both tasty and had great food. We got the Henry Ford package and toured the Museum and Greenfield Village; both were amazing! Gracious staff and a beautiful property...will stay here again.

This was my first time to the Dearborn area, and staying at a property built by Henry Ford was too much to pass up! I appreciated the historic significance of the property and the beauty of the Inn. When we arrived, there was a wedding party in the main meeting hall and they had just cleared the chairs from the outdoor ceremony. I could see how the Inn would be the perfect event location as it provided housing, a nice outdoor venue, and a lovely reception area inside. We used the iPhone app to take a history tour of the property, and that was very interesting. I would highly suggest it to get a better perspective of the property you are visiting. I was really surprised though that when we checked in, no one told us that we would have to carry our luggage up a staircase. The structure housing our room - the McGuffey building - is a two-story building without an elevator. For us, that was not a problem as we are able-bodied. But still, no one asked if we were in fact able. One had to run downstairs to get a bucket of ice as well. In addition, the air conditioning loudly cut on and off all night, waking me several times. The neighboring guestroom had someone who left the room at 6:00 am each morning and returned about 7 am, and each time the door slammed shut. So, the noise level was an issue in the McGuffey building. I do not know if this is a problem in rooms located elsewhere on the property.
