This was an excellent choice to stay! We booked a King room, but had to be switched to a Queen room at check in. Carrie at the front desk was beyond accommodating- she switched us to a room with an excellent Detroit view. She was very professional and polite- best experience with hotel staff!! Our room was clean and large, great value. The location an parking was sufficient, and we were steps away from the People Mover & a great night out! I will highly recommend this hotel and likely stay again!

Dear Fordjn,

Thank you for the great review. I will pass your compliments along to Carrie.

Due to the size of our guest rooms, we are able to provide queen size mattresses in all of our rooms with two beds. They are located throughout the hotel, and many have great views of the city and Canada. I'm glad to hear this was a better option and we had availability.

We look forward to your return and appreciate the recommendations!

Sincerely,

Jon Coutts – General Manager

My husband and I stayed here for the Detroit Marathon in October. It was listed as one of the host hotels, so the rate wasn't too bad. It had an indoor walkway to the Renaissance Center which was nice. We walked over and there was a CVS pharmacy, as well as a Tim Horton's donuts :o) It was not too far from the start/finish line, and it was also within walking distance to the Cobo Center where the expo was being held. The only downside was that since it was the weekend, some placed in the Renaissance Center closed early - like Starbucks :o( There also was a limited number of close by restaurants. There is a restaurant in the hotel which was average. But they also had a bar which was nice.

Rooms were very clean - even the bathroom. The walls were a bit thin though. Front desk people were helpful and personable.

It was also convenient to the People Mover, the monorail system that makes a loop around downtown. You can walk to the People Mover via the indoor walkway which is nice in poor weather. Valet parking was $20, on par with other hotels downtown. I would stay here again!

Dear Dale,

It’s nice to hear you were able to take advantage of the many amenities in and around our hotel. I’m surprised Starbucks didn’t offer extended hours over the marathon weekend, and will forward your comments along to their manager.

We hope to see you again next October for another marathon, if not sooner!

Sincerely,

We stayed at this hotel last weekend for two nights while we were in town for a Detroit Lions game. The location was perfect...right across the border, felt safe in the area and quick easy access to everywhere we wanted to go (we didn't use the people mover but a cab to Comerica/Ford Field area took 5 mins and cost $10). We parked our car two blocks from the hotel and it only cost us $9/night. The street it was on was called Beaubien and the parking garage was north of the hotel between the Blue Cross building and the Renaissance Centre.

There was a convenience store on the main level where we could buy bottles of water, juice and snacks for reasonable prices. Four of us stayed in the room and it still felt spacious - there was an comfy chair and ottoman to sit on as well as a big desk+table. The mini-fridge was nice and cold and we were able to fit 48 cans of beer in it so they were nice and cold for tailgating the next day! Beds + pillows were very comfortable and the bathroom was nice and big and very clean.

Dear Cho,

Thank you for the great review. Although I’m not sure which Lions game brought you in town, or if they won or lost, it sounds like you had a great time.

Due to the size of our guest rooms, we provide queen size mattresses in all of our rooms with two beds. What a difference it makes when accommodating four adults.

Not only are we right across from the border, the tunnel to Canada is directly across the street from our hotel. The location is really convenient if you’re considering a visit to downtown Windsor, and they offer a commuter bus if you’re not travelling with a vehicle.

I appreciate you sharing the parking garage tip as well. There are several options within that price range a couple blocks from the hotel.

Sincerely,

Jon Coutts – General Manager

I must say I was a little worried about picking a hotel in detroit and not knowing exactly where it was, but this hotel was perfect! Big spacious room, clean everything, and right in the middle of it all! We parked in the ramp behind the hotel and left the car there until we left for home, we could walk everywhere we wanted to go in less than 20 minutes. Perfect!

We recently stayed on a Saturday night and requested a high up room with a nice riverview. The young lady at check in was extreemely pleasant and very friendly and said "we have a nice riverview room for you on the 17th floor" so we got off to a great start . The king room was spacious and very clean, and she was right we did have a nice view.
We went out for the evening and had a great time in the city. I read some reviews that the beds were too soft, but both my wife and I slept soundly and we agreed the next morning that this was one of the best night's sleep in a hotel that we had ever experienced. The bed was perfect.
Despite being on the front, the room was very quiet and it was fascinating to watch the ebb and flow of the traffic entering and exiting the Detroit-Windsor tunnel, even at 2:30 am! Check out next morning was a breeze and this young lady was also very charming, and was genuinely pleased that we had enjoyed our stay.

You can jump on the people mover from this hotel and go to many places, but specifically all the sporting venues! The rooms are comfortable and clean! The breakfast is not very good so I advise not wasting your money. Overall it's a good place to stay downtown!

Dear Soltysiak,

Thank you for your Courtyard recommendation when staying downtown and the People Mover tip.

I’d love to hear more about your breakfast experience if you have some time. We offer a three tiered pricing option for our buffet, and currently ranked in the top 15% out of 851 Courtyards worldwide for quality of food at breakfast.

As you describe, our central location and the People Mover make Courtyard a great choice when attending sporting events regardless of the season. With a station in our building it’s a great way to move around downtown especially in the colder months. Although we are only four blocks from Cobo, the People Mover provides our guests access without going outside. As you mentioned Comerica Park, Ford Field and Joe Louis Arena also have convenient People Mover stations. If you prefer to walk they are all no more than a ten minute walk from the Courtyard.

The Red Wings look to be having another solid year, and Tigers Opening Day is March 31st!

Sincerely,

We stayed here on thanksgiving night a couple years ago and went to the Lions game and came back to the hotel to watch the last quarter (as we have done for the last 8 yrs ) and they had the Lions game blocked out in the rooms so you are forced to go downstairs and watch the game in their lounge( I was told by management the hotel wanted me to enjoy the game with their other guests). Needless to stay I have not stayed at a Marriott hotel again and never will. So if you are planning on staying at this hotel for the lions game and may want to watch some of the game in the room you might want to ask about that stupid policy they have. If Detroit doesn't block out the game on Thanksgiving then the hotel shouldn't either.

Room Tip: stay at another hotel

Dear Teresa,

I’m sorry to hear about your disappointment with our channel selection. We subscribe with a satellite television provider to receive Fox Sports Detroit in our lounge, as our current provider for the television signal to the hotel doesn't offer this local channel. As we recognize some of our guests enjoy watching Fox Detroit Sports in their guest room, we expect to finalize a service agreement with a new company that provides this channel in the next thirty days.

I hope we have another opportunity to accommodate you for an upcoming Thanksgiving visit. There is a lot going on downtown that weekend with the Detroit Lions traditional home game, parade on Woodward Avenue and the Michigan High School Football finals at Ford Field.
