“Loved the Detroit Marriott!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2008

I loved the Marriott! Booked the room for $79 through Priceline. We parked in the ramp for $5. We did have to walk to the other side of the hotel to check in but there were signs everywhere. One complaint was the slow check-in. We tried to use the express check-in machines but they referred us back to the front desk. The staff was very helpful. We ate at the River Cafe which was excellent. Quick service, great view, delicious food. They were big portions but I ordered 1/2 portion which was perfect. Took the people mover to Joe Louis Arena for $.50 a ride. It is like a tram or monorail. It comes around every few minutes so you don't have to wait long. And you wait under these heated lamps which is nice cuz it was soooo cold out. The room was beautiful can clean, nice comfy bed and big flat screen tv. I really felt pampered! The "express" check out on the tv menu referred us back to the front lobby desk to check out. So the only bad thing was the slow check-in/slow check-out, but overall, I loved it and would stay again!

Just returned from a stay at the Marriot in downtown Detroit. Valet parking and check in was easy. No problem with locating our priceline reservation, at a cost of $89.00. All the front desk staff were friendly and helpful, and our agent quickly found us a river view room on a high floor.

While our room was on the smaller side, the wall of floor to ceiling windows kept it from seeming cramped, and the view of the river and Canada was great. Casino Windsor, which was directly across the river from us, looked tiny from our 54th floor view, as did a small boat on the river, which we later found out was the Detroit Princess, that holds 1500 passengers! The carpet and wallpaper was clean but a bit tired. The bed was excellent, with beautifully updated linens and tons of pillows of all kinds. There was an excellent flat screen tv, an easy chair and ottoman, and an L-shaped desk area that we used as a bar. The bathroom was small, but very clean.

We were there on a Sunday night, so none of the restaurants in the Renaissance Center were open, just the hotel restaurant and bar. We spent the majority of our time at the new MGM Grand , where we dined at Wolfgang Puck, which was very good.

Upon our return, late at night, we again stopped by check in, who arranged for us to have a 2pm check out, with no charge. Yeah!

The main drawback to this hotel became apparent the next morning as guests began checking out, and the maids began cleaning. The walls and doors are extremely thin, and you can hear absolutely everything going on in the hallway. If you are a light sleeper, this may be very upsetting to you.

We ended our stay with a walk down to the food court in the Renaissance Center for some muchies for lunch, then back to the room to enjoy them while watching a pay-per-view movie on the flat screen. Check out was quick and easy, and our car was brought up promptly by the valet, Parking was $20 per day with unlimited in and out privleges.

Final thoughts: We would certainly return to the Marriot at the Renaissance Center. In warmer weather, I am sure there is a lot going on , and it would be nice to walk along the river. We would not pay the $279 per night posted on the Marriot website. but we would certainly consider up to $150.00. Hope this review is helpful. We will also be posting a trip report in the forum to let others know about the rest of our trip.

I stayed here during the Detroit Auto Show. Thankfully it was only one night - the night before I stayed at a Red Roof Inn near the airport -- and it beat this place hands down. Staff were helpful and nice, but no heat in the room, noise in the hall and $454 a night is a joke. I cannot imagine a better symbol of why Detroit is such a horrible city -- this hotel is the poster child of that.

I stayed here for every week for 10 weeks or so for work. The place to be if you are working at GM or GMAC. You don't even have to get out of RenCen as all the buildings including the Marriott are connected. The staff at the front desk is so so while the lounge staff is really nice and polite (some of them have been here for 25+ years when this hotel was a Westin).

The tallest hotel in the Western hemispere lives upto its expectation. Most rooms on floors above 40 or so to 70 offer a great views of the river/Windsor, Canada or downtown Detroit. The gym is of decent size and offers all basic machines/weights. The Coincierge lounge offers good breakfast and snacks/desserts in the evening. The rooms are a little worn out but bathrooms and TV's are being upgraded. The AC/heating units in most rooms are very noisy.

Just stayed here last night. A little hard to find entrace to hotel and not take tunnel to Ontario :)
Anyway, this place is big and bright. Check in was quite long, almost 15 mins. The kiosk to ck in on your own was down.
But our room was cozy and clean, clean clean! Love it!
We went to show at Joe Lewis and took People Mover, which was quite handy to be whisked from hotel to venue and back.
We only used the Starbucks downstairs to eat in hotel, so I can't review food. Would stay again for sure. Did good on room price through Priceline and no problem with desk checking in with the paper work.

A clean, bright, business-oriented hotel owned by GM, this Marriott is the center high-rise tower in the Renaissance Center, GM's world headquarters complex. Choose this hotel for its convenience to business within or near the complex, and expect: (1) top-notch housekeeping; (2) pleasant if imperfectly trained front-desk staff; and (3) a hotel room with the full Marriott experience, including those comfortable beds. If possible, ask for the concierge level upgrade. The concierge lounge is well-stocked and one of the best-kept secrets in the hotel.

Go to the car show almost every year. This is the best hotel
downtown by far. Was concerned that the hotel may be deteriorated because it seemed to be worn more each year.

Checked in using program points. I knew from internet there
were no premium view rooms avalible. Lady at desk acted
as my personal advocate to ensure I would like my view.
I did. You can see for 3-5 miles from the 50th floor.

New big flat screen, huge cozy bed, super clean bath, safe
deposit box in room, and nice fitness center.

All employees kind and helpful and the parking was only 12
bucks. Last week I paid 43 at the Chicago W lakeshore!

Connected to people mover, food court downstairs, shopping
in the plaza...everything except a pool.
