“In the Inn”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

Overall the Inn is nothing to write home about. Yet, I do stay here every time I am in Detroit. This is due to the lack of proper alternatives in the city as most so called 'luxury' hotels in the Detroit are rather generic and without character. The Inn is discrete and clean very well priced. If you can do with a little old fashioned decor, rather simple services (no restaurant, room service, etc.) but want a charming property this is your place.

I can't say enough about how much we LOVED the Inn! From the cookies and water at checkin, the amazing shuttle service, the clean rooms to the very nice breakfeast it was all perfect. My husband and I stayed for a Satuday night for his birthday and we were givena carriage home with two bedrooms, sitting room and bathroom to ourselves, it was peaceful and really cool to stay in a historic home in the city. I would go back agian in a heartbeat!

Inn at Ferry is deservedly famous for its wonderful architecture, and it's a restful, beautiful inn for city touring. The lovely decor shows great attention to detail, and maintenance is good considering the age of the buildings. The shuttle service changes your city experience, since you don't have to worry about parking or directions at all. We started with a gorgeous room on the second floor of the Scott (main) House, with a sitting area, large bath, and nice views. Unfortunately, since we are very light sleepers, this room didn't work well for us, since it's right up the stairs from reception, with its phone calls, shuttle service arrangements, etc. Moving to a quiet room in another building was very easy the next day, though. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. Breakfast was delicious and varied, with plenty of fresh fruit for the Belgian waffles and a nice assortment of condiments for the scrambled eggs.

Room Tip: The rooms are all unique, so tell the reservationist what is important to you when you book. They...

Just came back from a very enjoyable stay at the Inn on Ferry Street in Detroit. We had booked suite, which consisted of two well-appointed and large rooms on the second floor. The Inn is located in a series of historic mansions on Ferry St. They are nicely appointed, with tall ceilings and good decor. The common areas are also inviting. The houses have been extensively remodelled but are still "old homes" with a slightly squeaky staircase and no soundproofing. Breakfast is served in the Scott House so if you are located in another house you will have to walk over. Dining room is a bit tight on space when full but the breakfast buffet was attractive and freshly prepared, and we enjoyed it very much. All the service (front desk, breakfast staff, housekeeping, etc.) were professional and attentive. The location can't be beat - in the culture district within a 5-minute walk of the Detroit Institute of Art, the Science Museum, the History Museum, Scherer house, the Scarab Club and the beautiful Detroit Public Library. The Inn also provides a shuttle to anywhere in a 5-mile radius (which includes all of downtown Detroit), so you can go the game and leave your car at the Inn, or go out for dinner and then call the driver to pick you up. Especially great if you are unfamiliar with the city. ALl in all, we had a great time and plan to go back soon.

Absolutely charming art deco/Craftsman style houses and rooms. Fabulous breakfast buffet, and, coffee, tea, cider and cake all day in the dining room. Totally well located in the cultural district. The staff could not be sweeter or more gracious-ALL of them. Shuttle service available within 5 miles, which we used every day. Personal service. The day driver, Steve, is like a tour director and stopped enroute to shoe us important, beautiful, historical buildings that he even gave us brief tours of! You can walk to at least 4 museums within 5 minutes. It is a beautiful, impressive area. You would not know there were any problems in Detroit!

I rely on Tripadvisor and was excited to visit this historic hotel. Loved the mansions and grounds. Great lobby and salon serving breakfast. Quiet and calming for business travellers and others. Close to museums and medical center. I enjoyed walking the grounds and front desk and bellmen were very good at providing restaurant referral and orienting me to ground and general information about the area.

Starting to go downhill on second day. Clearly bed and BR has not been attended to by my return at 4pm. I discussed with lobby staff on the way to dinner He was shocked and planned to call housekeeping. Upon our return, the bed was still unmade. Strike 2. Checked out the next morning. Was told cc had been declined and then she realized I was prepaid in full. When I told her about my room not being cleaned, she was clearly not empowered to provide any service recovery and didn't know about my experience the day before. She said she would ask her manager to call me. Never got a call. As I sat for breakfast after checking out, I began to see the spotty glasses in the dining area. Strike 3 Despite the great facility, they get a C- for service

My fiance surprised me with a three day trip to Michigan in August. The first night we stayed here at the Inn on Ferry Street. It was about a 25 minute drive from the Detroit airport. The Inn itself is a series of old homes that have been remodeled and updated, but still have a very classic feel to them. The staff were extremely nice and it is located within just a few miles from the downtown entertainment. They provide a complimentary shuttle bus if you want to go to a Red Wings or Tigers game or just want to go dining. The room was wonderful and served its purpose as a nice place to relax and recharge. We stayed in room 2303 in the Scott House. I recommend this room. The only warning I have is that this room is located on the third floor which requires climbing a few flights of stairs. I did not see an elevator inside the home. Highly recommend this place and wish I could have spent more time there.

Room Tip: 2303 Scoot House
