“Not Bad...for Detroit!”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

The hotel itself was ok but the location is a few blocks from the city center, surrounded by abandoned buildings and shops.
Pros - The breakfast was excellent and well staffed. The shuttle kept running after a Tigers game, even though it was to have stopped at 9:45. Staff is very helpful and the valets were great. We ate at Big City Grill, which is attached, and the food was good. Each room has a mini fridge.
Cons - Rooms are quite small and outdated. Ours was to be non smoking, but someone before us had obviously been smoking in the bathroom. We were on a road trip and I tried to do laundry. One of the washers was broken, as was the vending machine in the laundry room. The pool wasn't clean at all.
The price was quite low for a downtown hotel, but if I have need to stay in Detroit again I probably would pick somewhere closer to the city center.

Dear hsipes,

First of all, thank you for your recent stay with us. We are very glad that the breakfast selection and guest services were all to your liking. On the other hand, I do want to take this time to apologize for the smaller rooms you received during your stay. As for the bathroom condition, pool area, and laundry facility, we take complaints such as yours very seriously and this will be addressed with our staff. Your feedback is highly appreciated as this is our best resource for improvement. We would definitely like for you to come back and give us another try.

Kind Regards,

Tracy V.

We booked this hotel for 4 nights while we attended a convention at Cobo Center. The location was so convenient, we walked everywhere we wanted to go. Definitely stop in the Big City Grill right outside the hotel--good food, good service, decent beer selection and fun place to play a few games of pool. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was one of the best I have found in hotels--good variety, good quality, delicious hot coffee. Do keep in mind that on peak times the breakfast staff will not put certain items out (flavored coffee creamer) to avoid it all disappearing, but were glad to get some when I asked.
The hotel room was fine. The bed was super comfortable and the pillows, which I am very particular about, were great. The bathroom could have been a bit larger but it was clean and functional. We were right next to an elevator which did cause some minor noise but it did not affect our stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to get a good value and be close to everything.

Were here for a convention. A moderate walk to Cobo Convention Center and a really easy walk to the People Mover station. Staff was wonderful, especially at the front desk. Shuttle was a real convenience. Took me to a CVS and waited while I picked up what I needed. The the next day we went to Institute of Arts. Shuttle took us there and when we were ready to return we called and it was back in about 15 minutes. Pool was closed for repairs, which was a disappointment.
Only major complaint was the free wi-fi. It worked sporadically, often hard to get on, then would just shut off. Then have to log on again only to lose the connection again. Very frustrating.
Room was on the small side and all bathroom facilities were in one room. There was no bathroom exhaust fan.
People seemed to enjoy the breakfast bar. Because I have to be gluten free and don't like eggs there wasn't much I could eat except the yogurt, but there is a hot breakfast, pancakes, and the other usual breakfast fare.

In town once again for a Red Wings game. We have stayed at this hotel before and liked the location close to Cobo and the Joe Louis Arena. A block away from 2 great coney joints too. Room was clean and service was very good. Very good and friendly staff at breakfast. They kept the food and coffeee well stocked for the breakfast buffet.

I was here tending to a sick relative in a nearby hospital and the staff were terrific in allowing me to keep changing check out due to the situation. The desk staff were really helpful and creative. Also totally appreciated the car valet parking team - these kids (guys and girls) are the face of the hotel and were professional, efficient and did their best to manage the sometimes big lines of guests. The parking fee of $20/day (in this area of Detroit) well worth it. Good breakfast spread and good 'in-house' reasonably priced restaurant. Admittedly rooms a little worn around the edges but the quality of staff made up for it. It's a busy place with conventions so expect a bit of back-up in checkin/check-out depending on other activity. Would stay there again for sure.

From your first encounter with the surliest, most indifferent desk staff you've ever met, to the slamming doors, groaning service elevators that shake the walls of your room, to the 20 dollars/day enforced valet parking...this will definitely be one of the more unpleasant stays and worst nights of sleep you've had for a price bordering on extortion. Avoid.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

Kind of sucks to pay $20/night for parking when your car isn't even kept on the property. Checked out the pool but it's kind of awkward; top floor, small, and there's no hot tub.

Room was fairly clean though, and breakfast was ok, so overall stay was fine.

Room Tip: Pool is on the top floor if that's important to you.
