“Hidden gem!”

Tuskegee Airmen National Museum
Ranked #111 of 155 things to do in Detroit
Reviewed 10 July 2013

This museum is a hidden gem. It is a modern well-funded tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen. The tour guide was highly informed and entertaining. They request a $5 donation.

The National Museum of the Tuskegee Airmen is on the grounds of historic Fort Wayne along the Detroit River. The grounds have seen better days. However, the Tuskegee Airmen Museum is new. The museum is small but contains some great artifacts from those brave hero’s of WW2. If you’re in the Detroit area on a weekend, I would plan a 30 minute visit to the fort and the Tuskegee Airmen Museum. Keep your expectations low and you will be happy with your visit. Afterward, travel about 10-15 minutes North to Belle Isle and visit the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. It will make for a nice Summer day out in Detroit.
