“Beautiful hotel with great service”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights to see a concert being held at Comerica Park. Checkin was smooth, staff were fantastic and helpful, and the room was awesome. Request a corner room if possible, its huge! The pool looked a bit outdated from the outside but the temperature was perfect. I didnt use the fitness room but it looked nice and had a decent amount of equipment. Overall I was very happy with this hotel, it would be my first choice if I return to Detroit.

Room Tip: Corner room 1903 had a great view of the bridge to Canada as well as the downtown. It is quiet and...

I've stayed at the Westin Book Cadillac several times over the years. In my opinion, it is the nicest hotel in the city. They spared no expense renovating this historical building. You are always greeted warmly by doormen dressed in traditional doormen uniform. The first thing you'll notice is the signature Westin scent when you walk in the door...always fresh and calming. The lobby is nicely decorated in modern furniture and finishes. You have to go up the escalator to check in. In the past, check-in has occasionally been slow, but SPG members generally get expedited service. SPG members don't forget to inquire abouit your bonus (drink, wi-fi, or points) and I always ask for an upgrade if possible. The rooms are a nice size. The bathroom has a nice shower and the lotions, soaps, etc. are all wonderful. I've even sought out the lotion to buy it for myself because I love the smell so much. As always, Westin beds are extremely comfortable. The views are OK, but it's Detroit, what do you expect? If it were another city, the views would be great. Unfortunately, you can see the blight in the city. Overall location is terrific. Walking distance from a lot if you are comfortable walking. Otherwise, there are ample cabs around town. Just be careful, in Detroit, they do not meter, then just charge you a fare and it can vary widely from driver to driver so ask in advance what your fare will be. Finally, eat at Roast inside the Westin! Michael Symon's place has a nice vibe, great service, and as you can expect, a terrific steak without having to leave the building...highly recommended.

I flew to Detroit for a concert weekend and was looking for a luxurious hotel close to the venue. The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit could not have been a better choice! It was a really short 10 minute walk to Comerica and was the nicest hotel I've stayed in to date! My king room was perfect. The bed was so comfortable, I felt like I was sleeping in clouds with all of the white covers and amazing pillows. Their service was impeccable! If I ever get to travel to Detroit again (which I hope I do, its a really great city) I will not stay anywhere besides the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit. I couldn't recommend it more to anyone!

Room Tip: My King Room was on a corner, which has three windows, and a completely separate in suite bathroom...

Green Features: The hotel gives vouchers every day you refrain from asking for a change of linens. That's a nice way to encourage the guests to be responsible. I appreciated it.

We came from Southern California to Detroit for a vacation -- not kidding. There is much to see and do in Detroit, including the art museum, walks by the river, Renaissance Center, and lots of art deco architecture. The Westin Book Cadillac is a renovation of a historical downtown hotel, and the rooms are completely modern and spacious. Great view of downtown all the way to the Detroit River and the bridge to Canada from our 18th floor corner window (which we got at a discounted rate by calling Westin, not using the website).

Contrary to popular belief, downtown Detroit is safe (probably more than downtown Los Angeles), and we saw many people walking on the streets even late at night. Hotel is not right on the river, but only a short walk away. There are some downtown buildings which are unused (rather than abandoned), but these are charming rather than threatening. We had valet parking and driving downtown was easy.

Rooms and corridors are clean. The employees are very friendly and service oriented. Only exception was the casual dining 24 Grill, where food was pretty good but service was lacking. Roast is their gourmet restaurant, but we didn't eat there. There are other restaurants within a ten minute walk.

Room Tip: Try calling Westin reservations to see if there are any deals.

Thank you for taking time to provide your fellow travelers an insight into the real downtown Detroit. Detroit is a huge city, and although problems do exist, the downtown area however always amazes new visitors who are expecting something less than the energetic, eclectic, clean, and rejuvenated city center. Thank you and we hope to be a vacation destination for you again.

My hubby and I have stayed at Westins in Chicago, Dallas, Indianapolis, at DTW, & here (obviously). Sometimes, you can get caught in a long waits to check in or maybe not get the friendliest person to help with whatever dilemma at any of the locations. But, overall, we love staying at the Book Cadillac for so many reasons that make it easy to overlook a few times you'd wish something was different.

First, the location is the BEST if you're doing anything downtown! You can easily walk to a Tigers or Lions game (never tried walking to The Joe, but bet it wouldn't be too hard), The Fox, Ren Cen, & tons of yummy restaurants that will satisfy every craving. The restaurants at the hotel are all good, especially Roast, but walking to get a great coney, to Texas de Brazil (YUM) & lots of others are so easy & safe.

The building is gorgeous & rooms are clean & cozy. We've stayed in every type of room they offer (& obviously the suites are amazing, huge, with great views from lots of windows), but the best things about any of the rooms are the huge, fluffy beds & relaxing rain showers. That room is the perfect place to just relax your tired self. We always ask for a room on a high floor facing the Ambassador Bridge (it's really pretty at night) or one facing Comerica Park & Ford Field (they're cool to see & in the summer, on Friday & Saturday nights, you can see the fireworks from Comerica).

A couple of tips:
*Book early; rooms go fast just about all year because of all the sports, shows, or concerts going on. (Last week, when we went for a Tigers game, there was a wedding & 2 nights of concerts at Ford. We almost didn't get a room.)
*Ask to be upgraded when you check in; we almost always get upgraded to a bigger, better room simply for asking for it.
*Look for specials they have online. The government employee rate can be $100's a night cheaper (you have to show your state or federal ID), or they may have specials on free breakfast, free valet, or even free nights.

Have fun & relax!

We booked this hotel for an event we were going to in Detroit. We had never been to Detroit before so we didn't know where to stay but this hotel is a 4 star hotel and ranked #4 out of all Detroit hotels so we thought we couldn't go wrong. We definitely went wrong although I am not sure Detroit would have anything better to offer. The staff at the hotel, in person were all nice and friendly but over the phone they were rude and unhelpful. Once we got to our room it was 80 degrees and the air conditioner did not work. We called immediately to have it fixed and then went to our event. Upon arriving back to our room it was still 80 degrees and we were told that we would need to move rooms at 11:30 at night in which we had to wake up the kids, pack our stuff, and move. Luckily our new room had A/C. We asked if there was a soda machine, water machine, ice machine, or anything in the entire hotel where we could buy something to drink. We were told we could either walk 2 blocks down the street that was covered with bums at this time or we could order a can of soda for $4 plus $3 delivery and 20% service charge. No, I'm not joking. They were serious. By this time we were starving because there is no where to eat in Detroit apparently. The hotel has restaurants but only if you are willing to pay 30 plus a plate so we decided to just go ahead and order room service. It was overpriced and absolutely terrible. It was freezing cold but that is probably because it took an hour to get to our room. Once it finally got there they had forgot some of our food and they wouldn't split our check half cash/half credit without charging us $3 additional to do it. If you need wifi plan on spending 14.95 to use it because that is not included either. There is no continental breakfast. The rooms are small. The only good thing I can say is that the hotel is clean and easy to get to. For the price of the hotel I expect more. I have staying in cheaper hotels with a lower rating that would blow this place out of the water. The Westin Book Cadillac look nice but they do not take any extra steps to make you comfortable during your stay. Actually they do everything to make you uncomfortable and have no apologies about it.

Stayed on Friday. easy to find off main interstate for us "out of towners". Huge room - no view (looked into courtyard) but who cares as only use it to sleep in. Found empty water bottle and key hair under bed-when was the last time they vacuumed there?
Hubby did some work on laptop as rest of family used pool. Very nice". Good breakfast and quick walk to stadium.
Perfect!
