“A great place to get a nap if you are flying Delta”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

We went to the Westin airport hotel and fell in love with the foyer and gorgeous space/water/relaxing with nice couches and chairs in corners to get a rest. We saw quite a few folks resting and found an empty couch, and did the same, before a late flight to Portland. Perfect.

If convenience and service rank highly on your list of demands for a place of lodging, then you will definitely like the Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport Hotel. Conveniently located directly on the concourse at the Detroit airport, this Westin hotel is ideal for business travelers and others who want to be close to the airport gates for quick access and stress- free departure.

Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport Hotel impresses from the beginning. When you enter the hotel from the airport, you will immediately notice the large, open, central atrium with water and decorative plants. A bar and restaurant are located on one end of the open space with the front desk at the opposite end. A quick check- in and you are on your way to your room, one of more than 400 rooms on eight floors.

Rooms at the Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport Hotel are very clean and nicely decorated with a contemporary flair. The beds are very comfortable and I fell asleep almost instantly upon lying down. The next morning, I realized I needed a few things such as toothpaste and a razor. There were no worries at all- they offer these and other personal items free of charge to guests.

As for the other amenities, there is bar service in the room, but guests need to be warned that the cost per drink is very high. Actually, the cost for food and drink at the hotel’s own bar and restaurant are a little on the pricey side as well. But if you’re here on business- and many who visit are- then the prices won’t matter too much since many employers will pick up the tab. Other amenities at this Westin property include an indoor pool, exercise room, gift shop, 24 hour room service, and complementary newspapers.

Everything I have mentioned so far would make this hotel worthy of a visit, but among all of the features, the standout and one I appreciate most is the convenience. The hotel is connected directly to the airport concourse so there is no need for shuttles or anything else. You just walk directly into the hotel from the airport. And when you leave, Westin has its own security gate, leading directly into the airport. Just have your boarding pass ready and they will run you through security with no fuss and no stress. This is great for those who worry about getting to their flight on time. There really are no excuses when your departure gate is literally only steps away from your hotel room.

With its short distance to a major airport and actively landing and departing planes, you might get the impression that the noise level inside the hotel would prevent rest and become a major distraction. But the hotel was designed to block out ALL noise. From inside the rooms, you cannot hear any sound at all from the outside. You can’t hear your next door neighbors either. The walls, floor, and ceiling block out everything, making it easy to enjoy peace and quiet as you drift off to sleep.

Overall, I must say that the Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport Hotel is one of the best hotels I have stayed at in a long time. Its dozens of meeting spaces make it ideal for business gatherings and its convenience is about as good as it could possibly be. Add to this the excellent service and comfort and you have a hotel that earns 5 stars and a high recommendation from me.

Room Tip: Most any room is good- all are quiet and comfortable

Over the years, I've stayed at the Detroit Airport Westin Property on business many-many times. It's always been a good experience overall. This still remained to be the case this past week. The only down side was the restaurant was a bit overwhelmed with a flood of out of town guests eating there, during the two nights I was staying on sight. As a result, the service was very slow but again, they were very busy. Their food prices are a bit high as well so keep that in mind if you decide to have a meal at that location. I also found it amazing how they keep the jet aircraft noises out of the rooms. Many of the hotels rooms are placed directly near the main terminal, but again the airport operations noises are non existent within the guest rooms themselves. Also, keep in mind that Sprint Cell service was very poor at this location as well. One final thought, a few years ago when I stayed at this property, the person who checked me in at the front desk gave me the electronic keys for a room of which I wasn't aware was already occupied. When I opened the room door, a woman in there began screaming, as she thought I was an intruder. I gave her my sincere apologies and got the situation resolved once I shared what had happened with the manager on sight. I was then give a free nights future stay because of the troubling issue. As a result of that situation, I now always knock first before entering a new hotel room before I enter the guest room itself.

My husband and I fly on a "stand-by/space available" basis. Sunday June 15 we spent all day and into the early evening hours trying to travel from DTW to ATL. Availability went from bad to worse with every departing flight so we decided to spend the night in a hotel and try to get home the next day. I had noticed earlier in the day a sign for a Westin Hotel that is connected directly to the concourse that Delta Airlines flight arrive and depart from - maybe McNamara Terminal ??

As you leave the concourse you pass through a TSA security check point to enter and exit the hotel lobby. Very convenient. At the hotel check in desk we were warmly greeted by a young lady named Latoria. I inquired about a room for the evening and was very pleased when she told me that yes their was availability and also the hotel does give a very nice discount for airline employees. YIPPEE !! She noticed that we were traveling without any luggage, it had already traveled to ATL earlier in the day, and inquired if we needed any extra amenities like a razor/shaving cream, comb or the like. Nice thoughtfulness. Check in was very easy and quick and we were in our lovely room maybe at the most ten minutes after being in the lobby.

The room was very nice, clean and a calm oasis after our hectic day at various gates. The room had a very nice chaise lounge for seating and the bathroom was large and spotlessly clean.

After a good nights sleep we checked out early which again only took maybe 3 - 5 minutes and walked through the hotel's TSA check point directly into the concourse. So very convenient.

The interior of the hotel is very nice with an atrium, water feature and trees. We did not use any of the hotel's amenities, restaurant, room service, exercise room etc., so can not comment on them.

Yes, I would stay at this Westin Hotel again because of the location and ease to access the Delta concourse, the beautiful room and the very friendly and professional service.

Room Tip: Our room on the sixth floor did not have a view of the airplanes at the gates which was fine with us...

A couple of times a year we stay at this hotel. Very convenient especially if you are flying Delta because they have their own TSA checkpoint just off the lobby reducing your time in line compared to the main security checkpoint.

They have a great Park and Fly option which includes valet parking.

The rooms are very clean and the beds are so comfortable.
The rooms also have the most comfortable robes anywhere. I actually bought my wife a new one online for Mothers Day. She loved it.

Great views of the airport and plains taking off (you can hardly hear them).

The restaurant is great, but a bit pricey. The lobby is awesome and the staff treats you very well.

We will continue to return to the Westin if we fly out if Detroit.

The rooms are very comfortable and this hotel is ideal for the airport as it has it's own private access to the terminal. We did have a mix up with our reservation which the manager sorted out quickly and efficiently which is more than can be said for the 2 desk staff I dealt with.

Stayed for a couple of nights and had a wonderful time! The Mrs. didnt want to leave.lol The kids loved the pool and spa area. It was very clean, room was outstanding!!! KEVIN was amazing with helping us with our bags. Very friendly staff as well. Even if you arent flying out I would highly recommend this hotel. Its everything and more you have ever wanted from a hotel. Definantly one of our top 5 greatest stays ever!! Every single staff member was wonderful, and you could tell they really enjoyed assisting. The restaurant downstairs was pretty good also. One thing I would suggest is taking advantage of texting valet to get your car ready ahead of time. No matter who you are, this hotel makes you feel on top of the world.

Room Tip: You will enjoy the outside view rooms. Nothing beats seeing the airplanes take off.
