We had a great time at The Pines Motor-lodge. Great space. The motor lodge is a step back in time with appropriate renovations. The staff was great too. Very accommodating. We loved location. Close to both downtowns, and the beach. The hotel is walking distance to downtown Douglas and The Dunes Hotel. It is a bit of a walk to downtown Saugatuck, but we made it. All said, fun or relaxing vacation spot, depending on your mood.

My husband and I stayed at The Pines Motor Lodge weekend of June 27th for 2 nights. When you pull into the parking lot you feel like you are puling into a vacation property in the Florida Keys. Steve one of the owners was there to greet us and was so nice and made you feel welcome. We had a King bedroom unit which he upgraded us to at no charge. The room was extremely clean and the room was decorated to perfection not to much and not to little. The log Amish made bed was beautiful and comfortable and they included 5 PILLOWS of regular size who does that....No one but the Pines. Bathroom was small but worked out great for us. The rooms are not huge but perfect size. The continental breakfast was served in the sun room which was extremely cute and the theme of the rooms carried through out the property. This is a GREAT place to stay and we will be back again.

It's June, 2014 and the summer season is just beginning, but Rob and Steve (our charming hosts) are ready with comfortable rooms, gorgeous gardens and eye-popping hanging baskets of the reddest geraniums you've ever seen. The rooms are basic but spacious, very clean and well-equipped. The hotel itself is a quick & Easley walk to a grocery store and the Douglas shops and restaurants (all quite good).

Only two minor things kept it from a perfect stay:

1). The wifi was weak. If you truly want to escape, this may actually be a benefit. I found myself reading a book sitting under the pines or luxuriating in that ever-elusive afternoon nap.

2) The walls seem a bit thin or poorly insulated, making a neighbor's somewhat raised voice a fixture in our room. If that's a worry, ask for a room that shares the fewest walls.

All in all we kicked off summer in style, found many things in the shops to bring home, had delicious meals (listen to Steve's recommendations, they're spot on) and a lovely stay. We will return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that shares the fewest walls with other rooms...

This motel is the perfect pit stop for anybody traversing the west side of Michigan. It has character in the best sort of way, a little vintage flair - yet the accommodations are clean and eco-conscious. Very impressed by the staff, as they go out of their way to provide travelers with things they may before hitting the road…the front desk drew me a map to the local beaches and gave me tips on where to grab the best meals in town. Definitely will return next year!

Room Tip: All the rooms are equally peaceful and clean, from what I've observed.

We enjoyed ourselves there, and if we had a question everyone answered with a smile,
one day our tv lost a signal from DISH and a nice Gentleman came and stayed on the phone with DISH till it was working....the continental breakfast was great, bagels, muffins, coffee, tea, and all day there was a bowl of apples etc....very clean rooms, and the best soft toilet paper (had to mention that, because normally it s the one ply rough stuff) cute souvenir shop ....it is walking distance to Douglas restaurants and stores and a grocery store across the street...short drive to Saugatuck....and about 10 -15 minutes to Holland. Catholic Church across street too.

Room Tip: We had room 11 , which was great.....14 is the end room, we had a king bed and don't know if tha...

My partner and I stayed here in June and enjoyed motel living at its best. A Beautiful bed, well appointed room, and free breakfast in the morning. The mattress was comfortable and the room was quiet.....we had a great nights sleep. The owners are friendly and keep the property in tip top shape. We'll be back!

My Mom and I spent one night (a weekday night) at the Pines and it was just the place we needed. Very comfortable place to come back to after shopping or dinner. The staff was very helpful. The continental breakfast was convenient. The rooms were extremely comfortable and we had no complaints at all. Although remember to bring your own hair dryer if you need one.
