Our online reservations were not honored at check in, the fellow refused to offer any help at all. A manager stepped in and did the absolute minimum to satisfy us, without bothering to be at all welcoming. At check out, we were overcharged and the clerk hadn't a clue how to resolve this. A different manager sneered over her shoulder that they'd fax final charges so we could make our meeting on time. The final charges had been put on the wrong account (contrary to our instructions) and the Center refused to transfer them to the correct account. The service here was more than lacking; it was appalling. The staff appear lethargic, dull and utterly uninterested in their guests' comfort. The rooms are dreadful: dirty, smelly, worn-out and tired. The lobby is lovely but the rooms are an enormous disappointment. However, the rudeness of the staff is what prompts me to encourage you to go anywhere else, even bring a tent to Lansing as you will be more comfortable in it than in the Center.

The hotel is adorable. Rooms with beautiful view of the red cedar- at the heart of MSU.
Service is great but the rooms could be nicer.
The restaurant is great - with typical midwestern food.

We stayed at the Kellogg Center recently, and found it to be only a so-so experience. Our room (special rate, about $100) while reasonably clean, was the tiniest we've seen on this side of the Atlantic Ocean.
The bathroom was more, er, compact, than any except that on a small sailboat. Hardly room for a shaving cream can, much less a place to hang clean clothes. Other rooms our party occupied were similarly cozy.
Want coffee in the morning? It's available for $1.75 in the restaurant downstairs. Breakfast runs $6 (for coffee and Danish) and up, plus tip.
Took us over an hour to get served, and the place didn't appear busy.
Room service is available, but even pricier, and it looked as if the bed or the windowsill would have to serve as dining area in that case.
Need to make a phone call? Fork over 50 cents per local, long distance, of course, is much higher. Want your sheets/towels changed? Room vacuumed? Be sure to so inform the housekeeper, who is quite willing to provide these daily services--by request. No pool. Pretty view over the terrace from our windows-- watch the football team work out there early morning before a game or eavesdrop on a riverside wedding most any Saturday afternoon. Nice quiet location on pretty creek with trails alongside, on campus, a 20-minute walk to shops and other restaurants.
Parking complimentary for hotel guests, but don't forget the paperwork, time-in ticket and parking permit from front desk. argggh! We found the nickel and diming- common to most downtown hotels- to be irritating, the room to be overpriced and cramped, the service slow and not terribly friendly. There are better values for the money, more accommodating service, and even more central locations in East Lansing.
