“Charming getaway just a few minutes from Lansing”
Reviewed 25 April 2013

We stayed at the English Inn for a too short weekend. The Inn is listed as an Historic Site - the former home of an auto baron. There are guest rooms in both the main building and the "cottage." We stayed in the cottage. Bedrooms were a bit snug but there were three "common areas" plus a porch overlooking the back gardens. Beds were comfortable, rooms were clean and well maintained. Some might say the furnishings are dated - I think they fit the period and added to the charm. The Inn is on 15 acres along the Grand River - with plenty of space to walk and enjoy the scenery. There is an English pub on the lower level of the main building and formal dining room upstairs. Breakfast was on an enclosed porch. It was hard to leave the Inn and return to the real world! We definitely will go back.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet - the rooms in the cottage are smaller than those in the main building

We stayed in a room in an outer cottage. The bed was comfy. The spa tub and bathroom were pretty worn, the kitchen in the common area only had one wine glass, starting a fire proved to be difficult due to lack of kindling and dry wood. Dinner at the inn was tasty, but gave me diarrhea. Breakfast was decent.

We stayed at The English Inn to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary and it was very charming and a beautiful place to stay. It's very historical, older, but everything was in good shape. It was March and still cold, but we walked around the grounds and found them very beautiful. The estate is situated on a river, and I imagine in the spring it is very colorful. This would be the perfect location for an outdoor party or wedding! We stayed in the Windsor room and it was very large, with a fireplace and room to lounge. Each room is different, and I believe they all have their own bathrooms. There is a room called "The Bath Room", and the problem with this one looked to be that the room itself was extremely small, but the bathroom was very, very large! There was a pub downstairs which was very quaint and had some great drinks. Dinner was amazing, which could be verified by the number of people that came in to eat, but were not staying there. And breakfast was very good as well. It was a very special way to celebrate an evening away from home! Recommend to anyone who likes these types of places.

Spent a Sunday/Monday escape having dinner, playing cards in the Pub, capped off with a delicious breakfast the next morning. We had a huge ice storm, but we were cozy by the quaint fireplace in the Pub, laughing and enjoying ourselves. Can't say enough good about this charming place. Easy to get to and worth the drive!

Room Tip: The Bath is a room worth renting! So interesting! Never saw a bathroom this big! :) We stayed in the...

We have small children and are always looking for a place that's romantic but allows a one-night stay as we don't like to be away from the kids for very long yet. We tried the English Inn and it fit our needs nicely. We stayed in the Windsor Room, which is one of my favorite rooms I've stayed in. The fireplace was so nice. It was nice to have the restaurant, pub, and room all in one lovely building, especially in the winter. Breakfast was nice and I loved getting coffee and tea at our door in the morning. I wasn't crazy about being able to hear other rooms very easily (there are doors between the Windsor and Bath rooms that don't block sound at all) and the view from the Windsor room wasn't the best. I would probably pick the Ivy Cottage the next time for more privacy and better view, even if it meant having to walk outside to get to the main building.

Room Tip: It depends what you want. Windsor room is gorgeous but lacks view and privacy. From others I looke...

I stayed at the English Inn for 2 nights, and had the opportunity to stay in a different room each night. There was nothing I can criticize about the inn. It is clean, beautifully appointed, and has all the amenities for a comfortable stay. The food in the restaurant was amazing!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are beautiful, and I found the Inn to be very quiet even though other people were s...

My husband and I stay at the English inn at least once a year for a getaway. The restaurant is awesome! The food is delicious! Also the breakfast is awesome! The bar in the basement is nice for a pre or post dinner cocktail. Also, the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. I would recommend staying at the English Inn, but do not book the Bath room!!!! The bath room is made up of the original master bath and closet. The only problem is that it is connected to the Windsor Room where honeymooning couples, or couples looking for a memorable night stay. There is only a thin door separating the two rooms and the last time we stayed there I could hear the woman in the next room screaming from about 11-1 am. I don't know exactly what her husband was doing to her, but I hope that someday I have the same experience. :) Maybe I will stay in the windsor room this year!

Room Tip: AVOID THE BATH ROOM! The windsor room is awesome! It has a big fireplace, kind of a junky bathroom...
