If you are looking for a place to relax and check out from the day to day stressors this is it! Whether you want peace and solitude or the company of others these folks will accomodate you. They truly feel like the family we've all wanted to visit but unfortunately few of us have that type of welcoming family stays.
Like I said if you want to be left alone they will ensure that too. They are not the kind of folks like you find in so many B&B's who want to give you a schedule and expect you to socialize. Although they do that too.
I know this is repetitive but I can't think of any other way to express how accomodating these folks are and how beautiful the house and property is. They should do a discovery TV show on this little gem to show the other B&B's how to do it. No, on second thought maybe not I want to be able to get a reservation to return.
Don't miss out by going to just a hotel or other, when you look at the bottom line this is a cheaper and MUCH more enjoyable way to go!
PS. although they technically don't have a fitness center or pool. The 50 acres and lake certainly are just as good if not better!

Room Tip: If you want more privacy choose the carraige house. If you want to be in the middle of things the ma...

The mating robins greeted us on our arrival. No surprise with the amazing collection of birdhouses that surrounded the property. This House on the Hill, a sanctuary that is not just for the fowl and the tender foot but for all seeking a little respite.

The House on the Hill boasts of a serenity that would be hard to match. Overlooking a quaint little lake, this 100-year old B&B lies nestled in the woods just a few miles from the shores of Lake Michigan. It is a treasure with beautifully decorated rooms that offer comfort and quiet. There are no televisions or phones in the rooms to assure the guest the opportunity to truly unwind. If you must watch the big game or catch the news the main house offers the viewing options a garden room.

Breakfast each morning is a wonderful assortment of confections and main dishes. Marci’s culinary creations are all made from fresh, natural and whole ingredients. She spends her week planning the menu, shopping and preparing for the weekend epicurean experience. Friday is bread-making day and Marci enjoys creating original recipes that blend spice, fruit and flour that rise to perfection.

The House of the Hill sits on 53 acres of wooded land, crisscrossed with trails that provide hikers and snowmobilers’ paths to trek and really unwind. The beautiful grounds are home to the local wildlife while an assortment of birds dart through the trees and brush singing their songs of spring. If hiking isn’t your thing, you can just sit in the oak swing and gently rock back and forth taking it all in.

Marci and Phil are the best hosts, seeing to every need and always making you feel welcome. They have tried to accommodate every aspect to make your stay the most enjoyable experience possible, from the warmth of their home and thoughtfully prepared breakfasts to a fridge stocked with refreshments. These are sincere and genuine folks who truly want to create an experience for you to renew and reenergize yourself. They are a blessing.

Before leaving I was already planning my next visit, I just can’t decide which future weekend event I should book. The morel weekend, the Chef Dinner weekend, or one of the other delightful events.

My husband and I have stayed at The House on the Hill twice and have loved it both times. It is a great place to get away for a couple days and Phillip are Marci are great! The food is delicious and the location is very peaceful. We will be going back.

We hadn't been to The House on the Hill for a while, but this visit reminded us why we need to get here regularly. We spent a super relaxing weekend enjoying the atmosphere, meeting new people and a special event -- dinner prepared by Chef Harlan "Pete" Peterson, former owner of Tapawingo, and Chef Perry Harmon. We arrived Friday night, enjoyed an evening out at a favorite restaurant, a wonderful breakfast the next morning and a day spent driving around beautiful Antrim and Charlevoix counties with strategic shopping and restaurant stops. Back at The House on the Hill we enjoyed a great social hour with other guests who enjoy B&Bs and great food. Dinner was spectacular and the company was wonderful. Marci and Phil are the kind of hosts who make good things happen with great food, friendly service and spotlessly clean, beautiful rooms. We'll be back again - soon.

The best B&B we have stayed at. It is our favorite place for relaxation, conversation and great breakfasts. The rooms are fantastic, and Phil and Marci are the most gracious hosts. We continue to return as often as we can to take advantage of the hospitality, and the outdoor activities (snowshoe trails in the winter and hiking trails in the summer).

Our weekend at The House on the Hill was the best decision we could have made for a special New Year's Eve getaway. All the guests were invited to join the hosts & their "local" guests for a New Year's Eve celebration. It was wonderful to meet people who live in the area, as well as people from far away.

Everything was immaculate; things provided by the hosts exceeded our expectations. We will definitely return to this hidden treasure.

Room Tip: The House on the Hill offers an option to use a room in the "carriage house." We chose th...

We loved this place! We had never been to a B&B and had never been to Northern Michigan. We had a great time while staying here. The room and house was very inviting and comfortable. The owners were so pleasant and kind. The grounds were perfect because they have hiking trails and canoeing or kayaking, both activities we like. I would definitely recommend this place and I would definitely stay here again. The food was very good. The hospitality was excellent. The location was a little off the beaten path but just as lovely as the rest of Northern Michigan.
