After bemoaning the fact there was no longer any good Greek fare to be found in Detroit, a friend suggested we check out new Hellas in Farmington-a new generation of a long time Greektown favorite. We read the conflicting reports on trip advisor and other sites so we weren't sure what to expect. From the time I called for reservation till we were walking out the door after dining, it was a wonderful experience. It was a little quiet being lunch service on a Sunday. There were a couple big parties going I think showers, a few families with young loud children, so we asked to be seated on the other side of the restaurant in the quiet booths. We were immediately greeted by a busboy serving water and then quickly after that waitress Tina arrived. Cheerful helpful with great suggestions we ordered a wonderful battle of Roditas-classic Greek inexpensive rose.
We ordered grape leaves with lemon sauce, and lemon rice soup which I can't pronounce :-) for appetizers, both were exceptional. We then moved on to the new hella trio which consists of spinach pie, pastitsio, and moussaka with green beans rice pilaf and peas, easily a portion large enough for two maybe three people.! My husband ordered the Gyros plate which was the tastiest and freshest we've ever had. It seems like we brought 90% of the meal home in containers. Everyone was cheerful and helpful even the owners who inquired of our experience as they were sharing a cigar outside. I would definitely recommend checking it out, we will be back soon.
