My wife and stopped by for a tasting. We have been to tastings in California and have really enjoyed them. Not here. The server made no effort to engage us in conversation. She would pour a sample and then walk away to perform some other task. Did not ask what we thought and seemed to be bothered by are presence. Maybe she was having a bad day. On a positive note, the vineyard was pretty.

“Great local wine”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Always bring back plenty for fall/winter. Several good dry reds. Whites good too. I like a sweeter wine and love them to marinade with. Friends want dry and take back plenty. Nice winery and good deal on tasting for $5.00 that you get back if you make a purchase.

“Been here MANY times”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

What great hospitality and education at the same time. Here is a place where they do both very well. If you get a;chance to do an event there, please do. The events include local music, wine, tours educational seminars,, discounts, and a lot of fun. The wine is good. Our favs are the Capricio and Traminette. The growing popularity of this vineyard is well warranted. There is a fee for the events, but you get wine tickets and there is food typically at the events. Some of it for a fee and sometimes it is pot luck or even a chili cook-off. Tastings were free when we were there, but with growing popularity, I don't know how long that could last? Highly recommend!! Vineyards are beautiful, take the tour and take friends!

“Fine Michigan Wines”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

I've been going to Fenn Valley since it was a small operation with a card table for a tasting room. It's nice to see it grow into what it is today. They have a great assortment of Michigan wines that can hold their own with anything California has to offer. My favorite is their Capriccio. All the wines are reasonably priced and they offer case discounts.

They offer many events during the year that are educational, fun, and very popular. Our recent trip was for the Wine Fest. Live music, food samples from local vendors, tours and, of course wine tasting. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Even on this busy Saturday they were there to help and offer suggestions.

2014 marked my 28th year of visiting FENN
VALLEY VINEYARDS. what started in 1986,
as a casual stop resulting from seeing a 'wine
tasting--winery tours' sign out on the interstate,
has evolved into one of the highlights of my
travel year. your visit here, will be an investment
of time, that will yield great dividends.
in 1973, bill and ruth welsch, sold their
lumber yard in wisconsin, moved to southwest
michigan, studied the land, and purchased a
farm, that would become FENN VALLEY. they
grew the business until their retirement, when
their son doug took the helm. at present, there's
another transition taking place, as doug's daughter
gwen, and her husband brian are gradually taking
over the daily operations, as doug eases into his
own, well-earned retirement. while gwen grew up
in the vineyards, brian, in a few short years, has
made an enthusiastic, and total commitment
to the winery business. this seemless transition
assures that FENN VALLEY will remain an award
winning winery, for many years to come.
the tasting room is well-staffed with a team of
knowledgeable consultants, who will guide you to
selections that match your taste preferences.
FENN VALLEY makes a wide variety of products,
from very sweet dessert 'ice wines' to sparkling
wines produced via the 'methode champenoise.'
whether you're an 'enthusiast' or a novice, there
are wines here to please any taste, and in all
price ranges, with a very generous discount
program for quantity purchases. there's even
'bulk' table wine... bring your own jug!!!
the outside terrace and garden, provides a
lovely place for a picnic, and there's a grill
available, should you wish to use it. the only
stipulation is that only FENN VALLEY product
should be consumed on premise. there's also
a selection of sausage and cheeses available
for sale to compliment your wine.
if you're thinking of visiting the area, you
should consult the winery website--as FENN
VALLEY hosts a variety of fine tasting and
culinary events throughout the year...including
cook-outs, live music, and vineyard tours in
the 'wine-wagon' hosted by one of the experts
on staff. on busy days, you may be fortunate
to have family matriarch ruth welsch as your
wine-tasting consultant...she still takes an
active interest in the winery.
to help you prepare for your visit, i've
posted an assortment of photos below, taken
of various activities over the past several years.
example of what is both a traditional family-run
business, and a well-managed operation using
modern, scientific agricultural practices. this is
science, sunshine, and the michigan lake-effect,
combining to please your palate. DON'T MISS
