“Home away from home in Michigan's "Little Bavaria"”
Reviewed 13 March 2010

My family usually heads to Birch Run and Frankenmuth once or twice a year during the busier summer or fall seasons for a non-overnight day trip only since the area is easily within a single day's drive there and back from our home. This time around, though, we opted to spend a night there during the slower, late winter season for the first time ever. Our goal was to avoid crowds and to enjoy our trip at a more leisurely pace rather than our usual hurrying and scurrying so much through the trip. We opted to arrive and stay on a Sunday and return home on a Monday due to a school holiday on Monday, and to take advantage of the lower hotel room rate for a Sunday night stay compared to Friday and Saturday nights.

Enough of our back story and onto the actual hotel review now, I promise. We stayed in a third floor king-jacuzzi suite at the SpringHill which was a good fit for me and my two kids. I had booked the SpringHill online over other hotels in the area due to the availability of the jacuzzi suite, free breakfast, walkable proximity to the heart of town in Frankenmuth, and what I considered a reasonable rate of $99 for the type of room and amenities offered.

The hotel and suite met our expectations and suited (there I go punning again, oops) our purposes adequately. The front desk staffers were friendly and welcoming, and the suite was spacious enough to have room for us to spread out and unwind. We appreciated the convenience and home-like feel of the layout, with the partial divider wall between the sleeping area and living area, and mini-fridge, microwave and small sink in the kitchenette located alongside the living area. The suite was clean albeit somewhat spartan in its decor, and the king bed and foldout sofa bed were comfortable for us to get a good night's sleep. The free in-room wi-fi Internet connection worked fairly well after some initial connectivity slowness early in the evening. If I were to complain about anything, it would be that the towels were on the scratchier side of the softness spectrum, and the ice machine next door to our room was noisily cranking out ice cubes audibly through our room's wall until I turned on our traveling white noise machine to muffle the sound and settle us down for a good night's sleep.

While we opted not to utilize the small swimming pool off the lobby and were told the hot tub adjacent to the pool was out of order and to be fixed hopefully soon when we checked in, we did make good use of the in-room jacuzzi, a corner style unit across from the foot of the king bed. The jacuzzi was well suited for our intended use to relax and unwind after a day of shopping at the outlet mall in Birch Run and the shops at River Place and along Main Street in Frankenmuth, and to gear up for more outlet mall shopping after we checked out the following day.

The SpringHill's free breakfast had plenty of food and seating available when we had our breakfast between 8:15 and 9 a.m. on Monday morning. Again, this was during the slower late winter time frame, and on a likely slower day of the week at the tail end of a weekend, noting that other reviewers encountered less food and less seating available during busier days of the week and/or peak seasons. Breakfast offerings included a variety of standard breakfast fare, such as cereal, English muffins, bagels, sausage, yogurt, fresh fruit, juice, and milk, which meant me and my picky and egg-allergic kids were able to enjoy a balanced breakfast.

If we do another overnight trip in Birch Run and Frankenmuth, the SpringHill Suites would be our first choice for a home away from home.

being weird about staying in hotels i had to check out everything in the room to make sure it was clean. It was pretty clean, i found some random hairs in the bathroom so they could have cleaned the bathroom better.
The exercise room only has 3 machines. We didn't use the pool but it looked nice, The game room had four games with 3 of them working. The breakfest was sausge, eggs, bagles, coffie cake, waffles, cereal, juice, coffee..Not too bad i guess.
Staff was very friendly.
The bad was awsome.
This hotel is in walking distance of pretty much everything.

My stay was really wonderful. I could not have asked for anymore. Great staff who would do anything for their guests.

I am a huge fan of Marriott properties, and of Springhill Suites and Fairfield Inns in particular. The location of this property was awesome, but the condition of the hotel was disappointing. Old, dark formica surfaces on doors really dated the room. And the wallpaper was also dated and, um, ugly. Elevators, a little creepy Pool, very small. The hotel was very clean, but felt like it had been converted from a Ramada. Staff seemed overwhelmed; hard to talk with someone at front desk. Also, they bus in disabled workers (which is a great thing), but they were not well supervised. There was a loud dust-up between two workers while we were headed to the elevator. (Compare this property to the new Springhill in Waukegan, Il, and this one doesn't even register on the "stayable" meter. The new Waukegan Springhill is awesome, awesome, awesome.)

In its favor is the hotel's great location. Frankenmuth is a fabulous town to visit, and we had a great time.

The hotel stay was not a complete loss, since I earned some Marriott points!

We stayed here for the second time this year. The rooms were clean, roomy and the beds comfortable. There is a coffee maker and fridge in each room, two beds and a pull out sofa bed.

The breakfast was hot and plentiful. The pool and spa were very clean. There were also "adult only" hours in the pool area in the evening that were enforced.

The best part was the location. It is within walking distance of the main attractions of the city.

This hotel was on the main street at the edge of the business area and easy walking distance for the sights. Suite was fine-only one TV that straddled the rooms. WI FI was available. Breakfast was adequate-the usual continental breakfast fare.

We came to Frankenmuth to see what all the "hype" was about and were not disappointed. The hotel allowed us to check in early which left us with the 1st good impression. The room was huge with room for an additional cot if needed, with plenty of walking room. The hotel has that cute German "Fachwerk" charm on the outside. Unfortunately, it was not followed through into the inside, but still looked nice.
The indoor pool was one of the largest we had seen on our 17 day trip. The exercise room was also quite adequate. Breakfast the next morning was sufficient, not offering as much as a Holiday Inn Express, but still a nice selection.
All in all, we enjoyed our brief stay in this hotel and recommend it highly!
