“Last minute reservations, glad they had room”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

We had rented a home in Traverse City that turned out to be a flea bag place. We scurried to fine a place to stay for a few days.. We discovered Frankfort because of the Point Betsie Lighthouse and decided to explore the town. Frankfort is a hidden gem. This charming Inn gave us a place to stay for a night. The young lady who look my reservation, Tammy put us in her favorite newly decorated room. The blue and yellow décor was updated and so Cottage like! The room was HUGE for 2 people. The bathroom was very clean, however the shower was a little snug. It is located walking distance to everything that matters. I would stay here again no problem!

Room Tip: We had room 209, Tammys favorite :)

Very nice helpful staff makes you feel at home. Two blocks from beach and right on main street. Good menu and again the staff is wonderful. We had a large bath with walk in shower, The room had an alcove with a whirlpool and a sauna. We heard there was a two story room. Down town is full of stores, food and boats. What a beautiful city. This place is the best place to stay if you want to park your car and walk. Beach is gorgeous sand.

Room Tip: room in front may have some street noise. We were in front and did not notice but weekends could be...

I'm struggling on how to write this review, and I write quite a few. This is our 3rd trip to Frankfort, but our first in the Sleeping Bear Inn. This Inn is set up like a B&B, without the breakfast. Each room is individually decorated. The Inn is old which makes it charming. The restaurant on the first floor is pretty decent; a bit pricey but good. We stayed in Room 203 so the following comments are specific to this room. Pros: HUGE room. Good TV channel choices (we have both a younger child and a teenager). HUGE bathroom. AC and ceiling fan on main floor worked very well. Cons: this room specifically is NOT for families with small children. The really neat-looking 'spiral' iron staircase is completely open on the backside and a falling hazard for smaller kids (under age 5-6). The carpet needs to be shampoo'ed. I did tell the front desk this but it didn't happen during our 4 night trip. My biggest complaint, which I also told the front desk about, is the large picture window on the 2nd floor has zero window coverings. Therefore, the moonlight, street lights and morning sunlight flood the room. Its both rough on the first and second floor occupants of this room. We had to go out and buy sleeping masks. The loft was VERY hot when we arrived (there was a heat wave) and there was no AC up there and no fan. I requested a fan which was promptly brought up, but then I needed to request an extension cord. This room has quite a few cords laying around, so again be careful if you have small kids. The shower insert is due for a replacement; its just looking pretty worn out. The dual shower heads were a nice touch. We didn't use the jacuzzi tub but it did turn itself on without us touching it. Kind of odd. The bathroom counter is an older and nice wooden counter. But it's due for a strip and refinish. And the mattress on the King bed needs to be replaced; its sagging in a few spots. But the pillows were very nice. The housekeeping staff was very friendly as well as the nighttime male desk clerk; he was super helpful. We paid just over $1000 for 4 nights and if it wasn't for the location, I would have felt super cheated. It is 2 blocks from the City beach and parking can be challenging around there. So being this close was nice. I think next year we're going to try a different place, maybe a block or so in from Main Street and see if its better.

Room Tip: The staff told me 101, 103 and 105 are very nice rooms.

This place would be what you would expect for$69, but they charged twice that amount. The exterior, as well as the lobby appear charming. The staff was friendly.
The room was clean and quiet, but small and cheaply renovated and decorated. The bathroom was so small that you couldn't turn around with the door closed. The promised Wi-Fi only worked in the lobby, not in the room.
They're are lots of other places to stay that would be a better value.

What a beautiful and historic hotel!! My wife and I recently met with friends in Frankfort and were able to stay at the Sleeping Bear Inn. The attention paid to detail showed as from the point of walking in the front door until when we left we were wowed by the great hotel. The staff was very impressive and we knew that they were here for us and what ever we might need to make our stay more enjoyable. We walked twice to the lighthouse, once under the stars and the other for sunrise. What beautiful memories.

My husband and I were on a golf vacation, driving through northern Michigan, and we landed in Frankfort for a late dinner. We decided to stay overnight there, rather than driving further to our next location. We walked across the street, in dowtown Frankfort, to the Sleeping Bear Inn, and they were very accomodating. It was almost 11pm and they only had a couple of higher-end rooms available, but they accomodated our needs and we got a great room at a discounted price. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The room was very clean and had nice amenties. The next morning, we had breakfast at the hotel, which was better than what we have typically seen along our travels. We were able to just walk out the front door and enjoy the shops, restaurants and farmer's market along the main street in Frankfort. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.

Really liked the location and room. Room is was cute and clean and inn was in a perfect location to the beach and little main street. We ate in the restaurant an although can't complain at all about the food the staff was a little questionable. The cook came out the bar and had a drink (beer) and sat with another staff member eating her dinner at the bar (all during their shift). The front of the house staff seems to be friendly and professional, while the kitchen/ bar staff needs some additional training.
