“Gorgeous and Unique - Family Friendly”
Reviewed 21 November 2013

We visited over the holidays, and the entire campus was decorated in beautiful holiday décor. there is also an option to take a horse and carriage ride through the gardens. This place is fascinating and truly unique. I have also visited when the butterflies are there. The indoor gardens are breathtaking! Kids enjoy this as well. There are also concerts in the park - the best part? Bring your own food and drink! Highly recommend a visit, no matter what time of year it is.

“Beautiful collection”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

The gardens were still attractive in October, both inside and out. The sculptures are magnificent. There was also train tours and a new developing Japanese garden. There is so much to see. Best if visited in Spring through Fall for the best color. Look for the giant horse sculpture in bronze.

“Great Date Place”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

Very romantic, very kid-friendly, great place to walk, hang, take photos, have lunch. The Japanese botanical garden isn't open until 2014, so I'd wait until then.

“A great way to spend a couple of hours”
Reviewed 5 November 2013

It was so admirable of the Meijers to share this attraction with the public. Beautifully landscaped gardens with with major modern works of sculpture, in addition to the indoor gardens. The obligatory Chuilly chandelier and ceiling flower sculpture is there too.

“More Extensive Collections than Washington D.C.”
Reviewed 4 November 2013

I've visited Washington D.C. a few times and enjoyed my trips to the art museums and sculpture garden out there. Frederik Meijer Gardens blows those out of the water. FM Gardens contains many of the same artists as those I noticed in D.C. but includes their more interesting or impressive examples.

The gardens are well-maintained and easy to travel, even for those in wheelchairs. There are also tram tours for those who cannot (or won't) walk on foot. If you wish to make a short trip with children, the Children's Garden is located immediately adjacent to the main building and can occupy a child's interest for 45 minutes-1 hour easily.

I would recommend bringing sunscreen and a bottle of water when you visit, as many of the paths are very partially shaded. There are water fountains and vendors near the main building in the Gardens.

If you don't mind paying twice, I would recommend making two trips to the Gardens rather than a single trip with the intention to see everything. After a while, your mind becomes overwhelmed, and your feet will become tired.
