This place epitomizes the term, “You get what you pay for.” Located by the river and across the bridge from The Public Museum, the Marriott is a wonderful experience. During the summer they have several Cabanas by the river with an outdoor fire pit. I was there over the weekend and there were several live bands. The most impressive part was the fact that mid-day staff would come by to see if you needed anything (e.g. new towels, snacks, etc. ) and if you weren’t in the room they would leave chocolate for you. It’s near everything you want to see Downtown so the location is great. If you are looking to treat yourself, look no further!

Not my first stay at this fabulous Marriott! I love this hotel!! The large soaker tubs, the rain shower and all the amenities- it’s wonderful!! It was only a one night stay before heading further north - but a restful and relaxing time was enjoyed!! Easy to reach and staff is as wonderful as the hotel!!
OH YES, I’ll be back!!

Location is close to lots of restaurants, parking is easy. Lobby offers lots of seating. Executive/club lounge is a bit small and can get busy and loud. Rooms are large, but bathrooms are a bit small. Rooms are quiet.

I have stayed here several times, starting when my friend's wedding was called off only three days before the wedding day. I took her here on her wedding day to get away from everything, and it was amazing. The smell of the lobby is my favorite smell anywhere. I have always received excellent service. I always pay extra to stay at the concierge level. The view, the treats, and the drinks are well worth it. The 616 restaurant is delicious, but a bit pricey. I ate there once and afterward kept to Mixology and the concierge lounge. The truffle fries are to die for! The pool and hot tub area is lovely and very relaxing, especially in the winter when I stay most often. The rooms are very comfortable, spacious, and well appointed. The bathrooms are amazing. I always try to get in a soak in the tub while I'm here. I've also had multiple massages here and they are wonderful too. I always look for excuses to come back!

Room Tip: Concierge level is the best!

We stayed at the JW Marriott in Grand Rapids, MI for one night in June 2018. Our first interaction with staff at the front desk was beyond rude. There is a separate desk off to the side around a corner for moible check in, if you have mobile check in make sure to go to the right desk. We were treated poorly until our status must have popped up on the their computer and then all of the sudden they changed their tone to our platinum premier status. Good service should just naturally occur at JW and should not be based on status! The hotel itself is beautiful and the view from the rooms and elevator bank are lovely. The higher the floor the better the view. Our rom was nice, and decorated in a typcial Marriott style. The bathroom is all in one room which can be challenging getting ready in the morning. The executive lounge is on the 23rd floor and is even open on the weekends. Unfortunately, they offer pepsi products, but they do have snacks out all of the time in jars, like cashews, trail mix, etc. The disappointment with this executive ounge is breakfast. Never have we ever seen such a pathetic breakfast at a Marriott property as we did in the executive lounge! We were amazing that there were NO hot dishes! Unless you want to count the toaster. There was cereal, muffins, bread, but pretty much that was it. We were completely dumbfounded that such a beautiful hotel and a JW at that would have such a horrific, pitiful breakfast for their executive lounge. There is a nice breakfast buffet available in the 616 restaurant, for a ridiculous price. I would suggest that this hotel rethink what they offer in their executive lounge for breakfast...bacon and scrambled eggs would go a long way over a piece of toast of tiny box of cereal for their supposedly valued guests with high Marriott status and access to this lounge.

Dear lithlith-

We apologize that your initial interaction with an associate came off as rude. We strive to provide every guest with an excellent experience when they are staying with us, regardless of their reward status. We appreciate your compliments of the views, rooms and decor and will take your comments regarding the lounge offerings into account in discussions with our teams.
