I surprised my Mom with a little trip to Grand Rapids for the Kenny Chesney concert on Mother's Day weekend. This hotel was perfectly located downtown, within walking distance from the Van Andel.

Upon arrival, there was a short line to check-in, but the the gentlemen working the front counter minimized the line in no time. Very professional, helpful and friendly. We were directed to the parking garage, that cost $11.00 to park (not in and out parking, an $11.00 token is given to you at the front desk and the charge added to your itemized bill). I thought that could have been included in the room cost, but I am aware that hotels in bigger cities often change an additional fee, so it was not all that surprising.

The room itself was very modern, incredibly clean, roomy and had an excellent view overlooking the city. We were in room #517, two queen size beds and the rest of your common amenities. The hallways and elevator wells were also very well kept and maintained. Clean, clean, clean.... love it!

We didn't waste anytime checking out the city a bit, "The B.O.B." (Big Old Building) was directly across from the hotel and offered many dining options, but a reservation is definitely recommended. We were able to get into "The Monkey Bar" that offers small plate "meals". Didn't take long for us to notice that in the parking lot, they were hosting a pre-party for the Kenny concert, so that is where our afternoon was spent. It was excellent to have the hotel so close by to drop off our purchases, change and get over to the Van Andel. There are walkways that connect to various hotels. It was nice to have this option after the concert, as the walkway seemed a lot less congested then the sidewalks below.

Check out was noon, another bonus! No check out procedure, as long as you checked in with your debit/credit card, you are good to go. They slipped a copy of the bill under the door for my records.

There is a cafe and bar off the lobby that offers a full menu. Also a limited Starbuck's beverage menu is offered.

Great time, will be back.

Room Tip: I called the hotel direct.

Great location in downtown, walking distance to the art museum and shops and restaurants. Very large rooms, nice workout room and pool. Free wireless and Starbucks in the lobby.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger double

Stayed there for three nights with colleagues. I have stayed there a couple of times back in 2002-2005 and the lobby and restaurant area has been refurbished since.
We arrived late Saturday night and the receptionist was fast and attentive. The hotels own parking lot was full, so I got a ticket for the nearby parking space for the J.C. Marriott.
The rooms were as I remember them - spacious and clean.
They have been fitted with new, large flats-screen TV's and the beds are luckily the same good quality.
Bathroom and the room itself was spotlessly clean and the working space was good - complete with a pull-out desk space.
After a quick bite at Friday's at the other side of the rod, I enjoyed a good night's sleep despite the jet lag.
Breakfast is no longer the buffet I remember - it's more like a café, which is serving light meals during the day and in the evenings. The waiters are attentive, but the kitchen lacks somehow a bit in speed and coordination. In my opinion a pre-dinner drink, the dinner and thin beer for the meal should be served in a natural order - not all at the same time - luckily my order was a Chicken Caesar, which couldn't go cold.
At breakfast my colleagues had to wait 10 minutes for just some toast and jam.
The amenities includes a pool, which according to my travel companions was really good.
The WIFI is free and works fine. I'm just wondering why you're not asked if you will use it and then be provided with login and password. I started the WIFI according to the instructions in the room and ended up with a screen requiring login and password. Back to the reception to get it.
The price for three nights, including parking is OK for a standard business hotel - and since the location is good and well within walking distance from quite a number of good restaurants, I'll recommend the place for a no-frills stay.

Location is convenient to the GRAM and many restaurants. Rooms and public areas nicely renovated. Pool was great for kids to play. Lounge area with individual TVs is a nice touch. Breakfast was a little slow, but food quality was above average. Will stay here again when in Grand Rapids.
