stayed here for one late at the last minute. We had a change in our travel plans and found this place online and booked it over the phone. It is in a very cool old neighborhood in Harbor Springs. The main "house" is very old and full of character. The hotel that we stayed in is probably from the 50's. Its a two story "motel" with very large rooms. We had a king and a full bed plus two overstuffed chairs, a gas fireplace and a small kitchen table. The bathroom was very big with a small fridge and a large closet. The floors were laminate wood with a rug. It had a nice cottage feel to it. We were on the ground floor and had a french doors that lead to a small patio with a table and two chairs. It also had small window type ac unit which might struggle on a hot day. The continental breakfast - included - was fine. Waffles, cereal, 4 or 5 types of bread, muffins, fresh cut fruit, juice etc. Close to town but a little too far to walk. Neat place that i would gladly recommend.

The Colonial Inn is definitely someplace I would stay again but don't expect luxury. First of all the location is great as it is the ONLY hotel in Harbor Springs-an adorable and quaint little town. You can easily walk to town from here. Also the room was spacious and pretty clean. It had a fireplace, a king bed, a fridge, a balcony. We had a corner room---I'd recommend that. Seems like the hotel has been updated somewhat recently but on a bit of a budget. And it is old. So it smells a little musty. Breakfast is included but just adequate. It is a bit rough around the edges in some respects. The people working there were nice. In any case, I would recommend The Colonial Inn, just know what you are getting into.

Stayed 5 nights in a second floor, 2 doubles, balcony room with french doors and fireplace. It was very clean, completely updated with granite counter tops, new beds, hardwood flooring, large bright windows on both sides of the room, spacious bathroom, and a very large closet. Housekeeping services were excellent, the grounds were spacious and beautiful, the pool clean, and the location one block from the waterfront and private dock was idyllic. I really have only 2 things that could be improved on for future guests; the first would be to replace a very outdated wall mounted air conditioner that worked fine but needed a bucket under it to catch nearly a gallon of water a day from soaking the new hardwood flooring, and the second improvement would be to add more protein foods to the breakfast choices. Yogurt, eggs, and breakfast meats would be much appreciated to balance out the high carb selection currently provided. Overall we had a wonderful stay and were sad to leave. We really appreciated the staff offering to replace the airconditioner right away for us, but we elected to use the bucket during our stay and have the maintenance work done after our checkout to avoid any disruption in our routines for the week.

Room Tip: Choose downstairs patio rooms to avoid going upstairs, or upstairs balcony rooms for more quiet and...

My husband and I arrived by bicycle to the Colonial Inn after a long bike ride from Charlevoix and were happy we chose to stay at the Colonial Inn. First of all, the room was sparkling clean and spacious. Second, the pool and hot tub were quite refreshing! Third, the whole area was wonderfully quiet and perfect for a walk along Beach Road where you can admire the large old homes with their gorgeous flower gardens on the way to the town (10 min or so). The town is quaint and harbor is beautiful in the fading light at dinnertime. Overall, we were very comfortable at the Colonial Inn. The continental breakfast of "do it yourself" waffles, fruit, coffee, muffins, and/or cereal is a nice convenience and it is fun to eat it outside on the covered porch and perhaps meet interesting people besides.

Room Tip: We were in room 36 on 2nd floor near the main building and breakfast area. A stroll to get to the po...

Our flight was cancelled and we needed a place to stay in harbor springs. Thankfully, the Colonial inn could accommodate us. Our room had a king and 2 doubles which was perfect for the 8 hours we would be there before trying I to catch our flight out of Pellston While it has a lot of promise, the musty smell in the lobby was overpowering and overtook our room. The ac seemed to only make it worse. The pillows were incredibly lumpy and smelled. The sheets were scratchy and low quality. Overall, not worth the $200 we paid. That said, the room was clean and had some bright and cheery paintings. It could be great with a little more attention to detail

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The room was large and very clean. After reading some of the reviews here, it seems like we were staying in different places or either there are some people that MUST find SOMETHING to complain about!

I loved loved loved my first visit to the Inn a few years ago. This was going to be a big splurge for mother/daughter. This time, my daughter is too ill to travel and her medical emergency prevents us from taking our trip this week. Thus far, there is absolutely no consideration for our plight, and the hotel refuses to refund even part of the fees: Even though the Inn had notice before check in on the first day of our reservation that we can't come to the Inn, they are keeping the total fees for six nights. Of course, I have documentation from several doctors that this was a real emergency.. During high season, it's likely they will be able to re-sell our room for all of the nights. I will be anxious to see if the manager (a "Mr. Brown") does the right thing. I could really use a refund to help cover medical bills.
Otherwise, a charming place...I was looking so forward to going back. Great location. Great town.
