We stayed here just for one night in August. As a family of four including teenage son and daughter, we needed essentially three beds (and our son was getting tired of uncomfortable roll-aways). They had a nice setup for us with a king room and a room with two doubles, separated by a common bathroom. Air conditioning was a bit noisy, but at least they had it. The breakfast out on the patio was lovely even in the rain. Lake Michigan just down the small street was convenient, a very nice area.

Room Tip: Great king bed room adjoining a two-double bed with bath in between.

I stayed in Colonial Inn for a weekend in June. We had a second floor room. The room was spacious and comfortable. However, the walls are very thin and we could hear people in the room next door. The facility is older and needs work. Their breakfasts were below average when I compare them with the breakfasts at other B&Bs I visited this summer. No eggs. Our only choice was cereal, toasts and waffles. The coffee was bad. Their rates are high and you definitely do not get a lot for your money. If you are visiting the area, you will be better off choosing a place in Petoskey (more choices of lodging and more things to do downtown).

We stayed here for a quick four day weekend in Harbor Springs, typically we rent a home for a week. The location of the inn is great, near the water, and about 1-2 blocks from the main part of town along a safe street to walk. The rooms are good sized, holding two queen beds that are incredibly comfortable (I'ld compare them to the Heavenly Bed at Westin), and the entire room is very clean. Because its an older property, there are some quirks, but it kind of makes it all seem quaint, not bad. It does have very poor sound control (the baby next door awakened us at 5am crying), so if that bothers you, it should be a consideration. Housekeeping is very, very good. The main house has access to ice, coffee, and some breakfast items. However, its a brunch type of thing. My husband went to get coffee at 730am one morning and the innkeeper told him, "I just woke up, we don't serve coffee until 8am." It was humorous, as I said, quaint experience. Husband simply walked two blocks and got coffee on Main Street.

A reasonably priced hotel in walking distance of Harbor Springs (but we preferred to drive). We loved having a private balcony on the second floor. If you don't like steps, there may be a problem. The spacious bathroom sink area is separate from the shower and commode. Very comfy bed & luxurious linens, new wood flooring. For being probably over 60 years old, the Colonial is well maintained. Continental Breakfast is standard and very enjoyable to sit outside on the patio. We did not visit the pool area. The staff, especially the manager, are friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: I appreciate people's comments and I'm influenced by them.

stayed here for one late at the last minute. We had a change in our travel plans and found this place online and booked it over the phone. It is in a very cool old neighborhood in Harbor Springs. The main "house" is very old and full of character. The hotel that we stayed in is probably from the 50's. Its a two story "motel" with very large rooms. We had a king and a full bed plus two overstuffed chairs, a gas fireplace and a small kitchen table. The bathroom was very big with a small fridge and a large closet. The floors were laminate wood with a rug. It had a nice cottage feel to it. We were on the ground floor and had a french doors that lead to a small patio with a table and two chairs. It also had small window type ac unit which might struggle on a hot day. The continental breakfast - included - was fine. Waffles, cereal, 4 or 5 types of bread, muffins, fresh cut fruit, juice etc. Close to town but a little too far to walk. Neat place that i would gladly recommend.

The Colonial Inn is definitely someplace I would stay again but don't expect luxury. First of all the location is great as it is the ONLY hotel in Harbor Springs-an adorable and quaint little town. You can easily walk to town from here. Also the room was spacious and pretty clean. It had a fireplace, a king bed, a fridge, a balcony. We had a corner room---I'd recommend that. Seems like the hotel has been updated somewhat recently but on a bit of a budget. And it is old. So it smells a little musty. Breakfast is included but just adequate. It is a bit rough around the edges in some respects. The people working there were nice. In any case, I would recommend The Colonial Inn, just know what you are getting into.

Stayed 5 nights in a second floor, 2 doubles, balcony room with french doors and fireplace. It was very clean, completely updated with granite counter tops, new beds, hardwood flooring, large bright windows on both sides of the room, spacious bathroom, and a very large closet. Housekeeping services were excellent, the grounds were spacious and beautiful, the pool clean, and the location one block from the waterfront and private dock was idyllic. I really have only 2 things that could be improved on for future guests; the first would be to replace a very outdated wall mounted air conditioner that worked fine but needed a bucket under it to catch nearly a gallon of water a day from soaking the new hardwood flooring, and the second improvement would be to add more protein foods to the breakfast choices. Yogurt, eggs, and breakfast meats would be much appreciated to balance out the high carb selection currently provided. Overall we had a wonderful stay and were sad to leave. We really appreciated the staff offering to replace the airconditioner right away for us, but we elected to use the bucket during our stay and have the maintenance work done after our checkout to avoid any disruption in our routines for the week.

Room Tip: Choose downstairs patio rooms to avoid going upstairs, or upstairs balcony rooms for more quiet and...
