Highland Hideaway Bed and Breakfast

We stayed at this B & B this past weekend and found it to be wonderful. The earlier review on food is somewhat true, though for the price, location, and view there really is nothing to complain about. When other places in the area were charging upwards of $160 to stay in a crappy motel room, my wife and I were able to stay at this place for $89. Jerry is a wonderful host and treats his wines like they were his babies. I can not recommend this place enough if you happen to be up north and need a nice, comfortable (and affordable) place to stay.

We found this property online and took a chance. Thank heaven we did!! One of the cleanest places we've ever seen and totally quiet, surrounded by gorgeous treetops and huge deck with white lights at night. Our room was large and extremely comfortable. The B&B is on the property of nice local winery. The property offers an exercise room which is rare in a B&B and nice hot tub. Very generous breakfast, free wine tasting and snacks throughout the day are included in the stay. Jerry, the owner, generously permitted us to check-in early as our room was ready. He's a vintner, ex-Marine and very attentive host. The property is five minutes from Harbor Springs and 20 minutes south of Pellston airport. Payment is cash only. Highly recommend as less expensive alternative to pricey lodgings in the area.

This was one of the most majestic and picturesque settings, nestled among the trees in beautiful Northern Michigan. Twinkle lights adorn the deck that sweeps throughout the georgous property. You can sit outside on the great deck with a glass of complimentary wine, letting go of all your stress. The rooms are also beautiful as is the entire B and B, which is a great value. The only issue I had -- and it's not a small one-- is the quality of the food served here. Complimentary cookies look like they were purchased at the grocery store. The breakfast consisted of packaged cereal, fruit cocktail with some fresh fruit mixed in (how hard it is to cut up and serve all fresh fruit?) and packaged pastries. Though the eggs were homemade and fine, they were served with an Ore Ida hash brown, just reheated from the freezer and an English muffin, a grocery store purchase as well. One of the charms and appeal of staying at a B and B is the care that owners take to prepare gourmet breakfast from scratch. I was disappointed to find that this elegant place couldn't pull this off. I would urge that the owner take a few cooking lessons. It's not hard to figure out how to make waffles, fresh toast, and muffins from scratch.

The booking experience was a little odd, as they do not accept credit cards. Sent a personal check in the mail...but the weirdness stopped there.

We paid $99 for a beautiful and very large room. Enjoyed complimentary wine and snacks as well as plentiful samples at the onsite winery. We also took a brief stroll around the wooded property and enjoyed sipping our beverages on the multi-level deck. I've stayed at Boyne in the past (this place is a couple miles up the road) --- I think Boyne is quite a pit and not a good bargain...this place is just the opposite!

Great experience --- would stay again, if we ever have another reason to venture to that neck of the woods.

Nice room. Accommodated a party of 6 adults and a kid. Beautiful locales. Its a cool ski resort in the winter, although we went during the summer when folks were enjoying their golf at the resort.

Who knew that in our own backyard we would find this jewel. My husband and I wanted somewhere special to spend our wedding night. Because we weren't going on our honeymoon immediately and were limited to "in-town" we started looking at B&B's. What a find The Highland Hideaway is! We were pampered and lacked for nothing....every little detail (and there are many!) is perfect and the breakfast is gourmet. We are about to celebrate our first anniversary and have booked for two nights.
