Room was small but comfortable and clean. We came to Interlochen for a concert and stayed two days. We brought our mountain bikes and explored the area. Loved it. This motel also rents bikes.

Our room was clean but very small. Bathroom is also very small. Spouse called the room "quaint." It is the closest lodging to Interlochen Arts Academy other than the Stone Lodge on campus, so in that respect, it's ideal. Price fits with other hotels in the area, but still, it's a pretty unremarkable motel.

Room Tip: Clean, small

We booked the motel to attend a concert at the Arts Camp.(Very conveniently located to the camp/academy. We booked late so despite the fact that there were only two of us, only the "suite" was available. A bit unfortunate since we did not need (or want to pay) for the larger space. But that was our fault, not theirs.
Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by the owners and their cat.
The motel advertises themselves as "Clean, Quiet, Comfortable". For the first...clean...I must agree. Fresh towels, clean kitchen and bath, etc. The bathroom was ample and had everything needed and the kitchen adequate.
My negatives had to do with a couple of things. First, to advertise a 2 bedroom suite rather implies that the "main" space (the non-bedroom space) would actually have somewhere to relax. Instead, entering the front door is a bit disconcerting. Yes, there is a kitchen table with chairs and a kitchenette, but the vast majority of space is taken up with a big bed, identical to the ones in each of the bedrooms. No sofa or relaxing chair to be found. Felt more like we had booked 3 bedrooms instead of a two bedroom suite. No place to comfortably sit and watch tv or read a book. If you are looking to pack 'em in, this could work, but it was not a particularly relaxing or welcoming space. Secondly, the refrigerator was extremely loud. All night long it ran loudly off and on. A minor (and likely temporary thing)...but still annoying. Finally, because the "suite" is on the back of the property, it did not feel like it was part of the complex, but more like an add-on to someone's house. And the "deck" that is referenced as an amenity is more akin to a couple pallets on the ground overlooking someone's yard. Finally, there is no wireless signal at all in the suite.
The regular section of the motel looked very cute and welcoming. And based on advertised rates, I bet the regular rooms are fine and a decent deal. I just felt that for us, the suite was almost like a downgrade at a significantly higher price.
Overall, this place has great potential and the owners quite welcoming. But know what you are getting with the "suite". A little more thought to layout and comfort details would make it more appealing and worth the higher rate.

Room Tip: If you need Internet, be sure to ask ahead which rooms actually receive the wireless signal.

My husband and I stayed here over the end-of-camp weekend to collect our camper child. We had always stayed on campus at ICA but happily found accommodations down the street at the Interlochen Motel. I arrived early, and was graciously let into my room. The hotel owners are delightful and went out of their way to make me feel at home. There are no "deluxe" places to stay near Interlochen Center for the Arts. This motel was sparkling clean, not a hint of mold or mildew in the bathroom, not one dust bunny in sight. Air conditioning in the humidity of Michigan August was quite a blessing, and luxury enough.

As the owner admits, the motel was built 50 years ago out of concrete and the free wi-fi does not quite extend through all of the bunker-thick walls to the rooms down on the end. You can mosey over to the office or the out door picnic areas to use your lap top. They hope to get a relay so that all the rooms will have wi-fi.

Another bonus for this location is that it is just down the street from Bud's, which has the best food in Interlochen!

Room Tip: Reserve well in advance if you are traveling for any weekend with big festivities for Interlochen Center for the Arts..

The owners of the Interlochen Motel are family people and very sweet. They have homemade muffins and coffee every morning, and are both professional and friendly. The rooms are clean, the water is hot and the location is convenient. Rooms also have wifi, microwave, TV and a fridge, which are all handy. I've stayed there twice this summer already. I will make this hotel my first choice whenever I visit.
