Stayed at the lodge after skiing Powderhorn. Great location, helpful owners. Rooms clean and breakfast was surprisingly good with waffles, cereal etc. Pool was big and warm, good little lounge and game room.

I've stayed at Black River Lodge 3 times. The last 2 weekends I stayed at Black River Lodge, it was under new management. The new owners are very helpful and accomidating. The first weekend I stayed with a friend in a lodge apartment that had a hide a bed and a murphy bed along with a full kitchen and bathroom. Breakfast was included with the room and they have a great pool and hot tub. The lodge apartment was nothing fancy, but was comfortable and very clean. The price was very reasonable and the breakfast included belgium waffles. The location is great, not far from the black river gorge, many downhill ski areas and cross country ski areas. We skied at ABR in Ironwood and it's approximately 20 minutes from this area. The only downfall was no television access in our room, but the bar in the basement has a big screen TV and we went there to get news and weather updates. The second weekend I stayed with extedned family in a townhouse not attached to the lodge. This was recently remodled and very nice. We had a fireplace with a good supply of firewood. The kitchen was well stocked, unlike some rental properties I've stayed at. The townhouse had 2 bedrooms, and 2 full bathrooms. There is a deck, but with michigan winters the snow was approximately 3 feet deep on the deck. I'm sure this is a plus in the summer. Again, the new owners are great. Are cars were shovled out every morning. (Wonderful lake effect snow!) I'm sure I'll stay here again.

We stayed at the lodge at the recommendation of someone in the area . There are new owners who have great plans to give new life to the lodge. It does't look like much at close range but our room was very clean, comfortable, nothing fancy but acceptable none the less. The lobby was in disarray somewhat, looks like the new owners have a lot going on at once. They were however very engaging and
helpful. The surrounding area was beautiful now with fall color, stunning trees. There is no TV which was a surprise, guess I didn't realize how much I missed TV, no big deal but would have liked to watch the news and some college football. Also wish they would have told us, no TV, then I wouldn't have been disappointed . This might be a show stopper for some. There isn't much in the area so we would stay there again , the price was very, very reasonable

We recently stayed at the Black River Lodge and enjoyed our stay. The new owners seem to be working hard to make new changes to the lodge. This place has a lot of potential and we hope the owners keep going with their vision. The pool area is awesome and the downstairs bar is cozy and inviting. Breakfast included waffles and homemade breads. We got a tour of all the available rooms, as well as the VERY NICE condos next door. It is a great location and the owners seemed genuinely welcoming. Since they have only been here for a a short time, I am anxious to return and see how they have progressed and hope they continue with the plans they have for the lodge.Best advice would be to update their fliers with pictures of the updated rooms and not be afraid to sell themselves. We hope to be back and recommend it to all our friends going to the UP area.

Room Tip: The condos, or upstairs rooms are more modern, but the family room needs some modernizing but is a g...

I recently stayed at black river lodge for a wedding and was very disapointed. The manager/owner was not very friendly or helpfull. He had an attitude problem when we asked to switch rooms due to the ac not cooling the entire room. The air conditioner units in the larger rooms are very much under sided for the amount of space they need to cool. Do not stay here during the off season.

We booked our room last minute ( well a few days before we where going) The owners where friendly when we checked in and the main area had a graduation party going on .. We went in our room and it was very clean, Not to mention they cleaned the room everyday when we left. They made sure we where comfortable also we ended up having to bring some of our kids with us and they had no problem with it .. We had a room with a kitchen, they had breakfast every morning , it says continental breakfast .. let me just say it was above and beyond ... The pool is great ... and clean . They even brought out stuff so we could have a bon fire and also joined us .. By the time we checked out we felt we had made 2 new friends and they where friendly with all the guests.
We also loved that they feed the hummingbirds and other small wildlife so you can watch them eat ... We are planning to go back to the U.P. a few more times this summer and then have a little family vacation in the fall ... We will be staying at the Black River Lodge .. we wouldn't wanna stay any place else after our stay there ... can't wait to go back ..

Room Tip: If you are going with family I would get the rooms with the full kitchen , we saved so much money be...
