We have been here many times on trips to the Lakes. The food is always good. It's a friendly pub and has an excellent range of beers.

We booked a table in advance and turned up to find the pub very busy and our table was free and reserved, Great selection of real ales and the Black sheep was spot on, food came out very quickly even though it was busy and portions were very good I had the Venison stew with dumplings and it was fantastic.
There was a great atmosphere and the staff were really friendly, will be going back soon.

We have just come back after a lovely stay at the White Hart. 2 blazing log burners welcomed us on a really chilly day, making the pub cozy and warm.
We were shown to our room number1 which again was warm and snug. The food later in the pub was lovely. No too long a wait and when it arrived I have never seen such a large steak, cooked perfectly and delicious. The scampi Thermidor was as I last remembered it ( which was 8 years ago and still as good ).
Breakfast, which was included was really good,
We would not hesitate to recommend the White Hart for all it's character, coziness and lovely food, Jean and Rob.

We wanted a quiet week away over new year, taking in some walks, good food and local beers. We stayed in a cottage annexed to the pub and we were not disappointed . The food was good , meat sourced locally , reasonably priced and large portions. The bar staff were friendly and helpful. The variety of beer on tap, truly astounded me as seemed to change daily. The cottage ( Hill view) owned by the pub landlord Nigel, was cosy , warm with 2 log burners and all modern amenities. We will be returning later in the year.

I've been to the White Hart countless times and it's always been high up on my list of favourites.
We went last night with family and friends and just as our meal was coming out, the power went off. This didn't seem to phase the staff in the slightest, the candles were already lit, so the Hart team broke out the torches on their mobile phones and carried on regardless.
As diners, we had a fantastic meal ranging from Partridge stuffed with Venison, Lamb Henry and Sea bass with shrimps, in magical candle lit ambience. The chips were the usual White Hart classics being very home made and beautifully cooked. There were a couple of understandable compromises to be made with the sweet, we couldn't have anything hot, but the ice cream and the chocolate torte were well received. One of our diners requested some Baileys poured over the Ice Cream, which was an inspired idea, though not on the menu, but it was met without hesitation.
Thanks very much to all at the Hart for many years of entertaining visits, some excellent quality food and hopefully many fantastic times to come.
