This hotel doesn't deserve ratings above two stars. Website states remodeled in 2009; which I'm sure is accurate however the management and staff have not taken care of investment. General areas are dirty, carpets don't look like they've been clean in some time. Night front desk clerk isn't friendly and acted as if I was bothering him when I checked in and on second night when my room keys didn't work. The morning clerk was sitting on couch watching TV with another employee with his shoes off and didn't notice me until I rang the bell; perhaps because it was 6 AM. I informed him my bathtub had dirt / grease in it and requested it be cleaned. Returned that evening to find it was still dirty. Very disappointed.

I stopped here for a short night's stay on the way from the Twin Cities to Detroit. The hotel is located just north of I-94, not far from downtown Kalamazoo. The decor looks to have been updated recently and the staff are friendly. Rooms are large "suites" with a half wall divider between the living room (with sofa, chair, fridge, microwave, and sink) and bed area. The bed was amazingly comfortable - probably the most comfortable bed I have had at a hotel outside of a Westin Heavenly Bed! There is a decent pool and hot tub, free parking, good free wifi, and the usual continental breakfast with some warm items. The elevator is extremely slow, and oddly, the floor in my room had a very pronounced sag in it - almost as if there was some sort of structural problem. All in all, a decent place for a short stay with a surprisingly comfortable bed.

Room Tip: The elevator is extremely slow, so a lower floor might be better.

It was unfortunate that a ten hour power outage ruined our two night stay. We were unable to use the fitness center, ice machine, coffee maker, 3rd floor elevator, tv , AC, shower etc. for over ten hours. It was hot and humid and very uncomfortable in the room. The hotel front desk made no attempt to reconcile with us even the slightest discount. We listened to children running and screaming in the hallways to well past midnigth as that was the only area lit by emergency lighting. We booked two rooms as we met friends from NY. This was extremely disappointing. The point is mother nature sometimes throws a wrench in the gears but we should not have been expected to pay full rate for non-useage of any of the amenities for a day.

Room Tip: Ground floor in case the power goes out!

Rooms are large, and clean. Decent place to stay. The lobby was pleasant, large, with furniture and a couple of free computers with a free printer! The rooms had kind of an "Old Hotel" smell. Only one elevator and it was slow. Breakfast was what I expected. Waffles, bagels, cereal, egg "patties", sausage...Not bad. Would go back if in the area.

A nice place in a quiet location. It has a nice pool area, large breakfast area and good food. Other than a little dust on one of the end tables it was very clean. It looked as if recently remodeled. Staff was polite and helpful. Rooms were a little pricey but there was a jazz festival in town so that rooms were short.

My husband and I like to stay at BW because of the consistent good service. If the hotel was pet friendly I knew that there were rooms set aside that never saw a pet. This 4 story hotel used each and every room for pets and felt their cleaning was sufficient. My first encounter in all my travels that I have encountered this. The check in clerk just shrugged it off. Will not stay here again.

This hotel has a very convenient location right off 131, near WMU, and easy access to downtown. It's an attractive building on a large, quiet, landscaped property, near highway, but no highway noise. But from the tie I arrived, there were these annoying little issues. The front door can be a hike from the parking lot because of the way it's arranged on the property. When I entered, I noticed no one was at the front desk, but there was an old-fashioned service bell that said"Ring if no one is here." Before I could hit, 2 other guests passed by and said "You'll have to ring it. No one is EVER there." They were right. The desk personnel did come when called--not always quickly--and were generally helpful, though one gave the distinct impression that I had called him away from a more important job.
Then there was the overpowering chlorine smell from the (enclosed) lobby pool, the keycards that didn't work, the amazingly slow elevator other reviewers have referred to, and what seemed to be a poor ventilation system. (Housekeeping had left room temp at 80, and something came through the ducts in the night that give me a fierce allergic attack--maybe the chlorine?)
There were positives--the room was very large, sleekly furnished, well-equipped with fridge and microwave, comfortable bed, very quiet. Breakfast was the standard free--motel-breakfast you get everywhere with those strange egg disks and, oddly, only cream cheese as a bread spread, but it was adequate, and breakfast room was large and attractive. And the best feature was the location. So it's not a bad place, but it is a bit quirky--and I wouldn't want to stay here if I had a tight business schedule
