“a gem of an art museum”
Reviewed 30 August 2013

Do plan a visit to this museum when in Kalamazoo. It shows a varied selection of paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, and photographs in an airy, well laid out building. Besides the fine permanent collection, the museum also does temporary exhibitions. We saw an extraordinary collection of Japanese bamboo sculptures, the paintings of a Michigan native, Catherine Hinkle, and a centenary tribute to the Armory Show of 1913 on our recent visit. There is a well-stocked reference library and a gift shop. Of special interest for those with children, is a room filled with things to keep them busy and entertained. The highlight was two computer screens on which to compose colorful pictures using pre-programmed elements.

Great classes and Exhibits. Also a really nice gift shop.
They sponsor a great art fair every summer. Definitely worth a visit.

“Kalamazoo Institute of Art worth a visit”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

They have a very good collection, plus their special exhibits are usually great. Of course, it is relatively small for those of us used to visiting the major museums in Chicago, New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. No restaurant. Has a gift shop. I don't know if it has lockers, or stroller parking. There are art/painting classes.

“Small but Interesting”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

KIA has art classes that are well presented and a small museum that changes enough to keep it interesting. Excellent interactive area for smaller children in the lower level. KIA has had some larger exhibits that they charge special admission for-Chihuly for example but otherwise the $5.00 fee for adults is worth it.

“Our visit”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

We thought more exhibits would be inside and more media forms. Glassworks are advertised but few available for viewing.
