Irvings is a standard for quick, delicious urban market choices. Lots of fresh and varied deli salads and sandwiches. Great desserts and snacks. I even enjoy browsing the beverage coolers for a special flavor of pop. Create your own combos and order by the pound from the cases of creations.

This is one of the best places to stop at for sandwiches in downtown Kalamazoo on the mall. Great food and people who work there. We have never had a bad sandwich there. We usually get the Napa Almond Chicken sandwich. It's a small place but makes up in size with their great service. Everyone who works there is very friendly.

So my mom wanted to go here a couple of weeks ago when we met in downtown kzoo during the week at lunch time. This place was hopping, the line was long and I had my starving 6 year old with me. I said, "um, no way, so we opted for fast food." But I always kept it in mind. Well, this afternoon I found myself downtown on my own, no kids in tow, wondering what I should make for dinner, so I popped in to Irvings. They were very quiet, it was around 4:45pm and the service was fast and friendly. I picked out a couple of already dished up sides from the case for a couple of dollars each: Spin. feta Pasta $1.40, Pesto Tortillini $2.10, summer sausage stew $3.99. Looks like they are markdowns cuz they expire today but I only got little 1/4 containers of them. Then I bought the dill potato salad from the deli which was full price and picked up a Gammy's Guiness Steak Cheddar Pie for the hubby (take home and cook for $12). I've tried bites of eveything. WOW. WOW WOW. The sausage stew has basil in it or something amazing. That's clearly my favorite. Next favorite: Pesto Tortillini. The hubby likes the feta thing cuz it's like a greek salad. The Gammy pie is really good, although next time I'll get the chicken or tuscan. It has a really hearty earthy flavor and is heavy for summer (duh Karie), anyway they had other kinds and for $12 how can you go wrong! I can def. taste the guiness. this is a guy's kinda pie. The only regret I have at this point is that I did not swoop in on the desserts! It was all hot outside and I couldn't fathom wanting that turtle brownie, but I'd probably love it now!! EAT HERE or PICK UP DINNER! You will not regret it. PS this is a MARKET, they have limited seating! so although the food is date night good, it's not date night material.

Hard to find a place you never get tired of eating at, but Irving's is it for me. Especially good is the butternut squash/lentil/goat cheese salad, the solstice fruit salad, the cashew/beans/rice mash-up. I can eat there every day and never have the same thing twice, but those listed above are the ones I eat most often. They also have muffulettas and other great sandwiches, coffee drinks, half chickens and a salad bar. Service is quick and friendly, esp. at lunch time.
