We just returned from staying at this hotel. We have been building rockets over the summer with our ten year old grandsons and thought we'd visit the Kalamazoo Air Zoo as a bonus before they return to school. We were looking for a place to stay the night since we would be spending most of our time visiting attractions in the area. We wanted a suite so there would be plenty of room for us to have a separate bedroom, but yet be close to the boys until bedtime. This was exactly what we were looking for the evening. It was well located to all of the attractions we planned on visiting. I requested a room on the top floor, facing the courtyard, when I made the reservation. The staff was very friendly and honored this request. We did not use the kitchen, so I really couldn't comment on it, but it did seem to be complete with everything needed. I did notice several people using the courtyard grills for dinner. It looked like a great place to relax, if we would have had more time. The boys were very happy with the pool. We noticed an object on the bottom of the pool, so I reported it to the front desk. They came immediately and removed it. The one complaint I had with our room (#320) was the living room chair. I was shocked that it had been cut, or ripped, and stitched back together on the arm. In fact, one of our young twins was the one to point it out. He was even surprised at the condition. It was also extremely faded from being by the window for so long. It was a piece of furniture that should have been thrown in the dump a long time ago. The breakfast was fine and the area was clean. Overall, this hotel was good for what we were looking for while in the area.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room on the third floor, facing the courtyard. Very quiet.

We originally booked a two bedroom suite, but it was unavailable so we were given 2 -1 bedroom suites for the same price. That was fine since we were traveling with older children. rooms were nice, although we didn't get a chance to use the kitchen. The lobby, breakfast area, fitness room, etc all looked very nice. Nice outdoor courtyard with BBQ grills. They offer dinners some nights of the week, but we didn't make it back in time to partake. Breakfast was fine.

Stayed at this hotel over the weekend and had many hairs in the tub and a lot of dust all over the room. Found some dirty silverware in the drawer. Sorry to see all the dead plants and many weeds in the courtyard. Gills looked like they had not been cleaned for months. Pool had large
dirt in bottom. Not sure what it was. I have stayed here a couple years ago and it was a lot cleaner and really nice flowers then. Sorry this beautiful hotel is looking bad

We knew we'd be using the room a lot as a place to hang out and visit with friends, and it was great for that. We put all the furniture to use, and the breakfast bar/counter/table was sufficient for us to do our arts and crafts projects on. We also used the living room TV to hook up our game console, which worked great. The TV in the bedroom gave us problems, though. We couldn't use our portable DVD player on it because the TV remote wouldn't work to let us choose the option to do that. The front desk even replaced the batteries for us, but it still didn't work. When we tried to watch live TV, the picture stuck. My first impression of the room wasn't great: there were several stains on the rug, we found a cigarette filter behind the curtains on the floor (even though it was a non-smoking room), the shower head wasn't flush against the wall, and there was a hair in one of the bath towels. But basically the room was clean, there was good water temperature and pressure, it was quiet, it was practically central to every place we wanted to visit. We were even able to walk to a grocery store, a Starbucks, and a bowling alley. The bed was the right size. The staff was friendly. The amenities were average; my husband wished the lobby coffee would've been available 24/7. In the evenings only the decaf was filled. Overall, Staybridge Suites worked for what we needed.

Dear Elizabeth D~
Thank you so much for the great comments! I am sorry to hear that we couldn't help get your portable DVD player hooked up to the TV in your bedroom. I am glad to hear that the room was big enough for you and your family to do your arts and craft projects and to have enough room to be comfortable. We are in a great location and close to a lot of attractions that our guests love. We can't wait for you and your family to come back and see us again!

I first stayed in this hotel on a business trip several years ago. My wife was impressed at my good experience and suggested we stay there on a recent trip to take in the Tiffany exhibit at the Kalamazoo Institute of Art. We booked the least expensive suite, but got a free upgrade to the two bed suite. FYI, this place is so popular that there were no rooms available on my first four requested dates. We are retired, so we were able to travel on a date when rooms were available. You need to know that there is a huge traffic snarl at the interchange between US 131 and Stadium Drive because of road construction in summer 2014. We probably spent 20 minutes just waiting to get through at afternoon rush hour. It is probably worth your effort to approach the hotel in a way that avoids this intersection. The management of this hotel spent considerable money on landscaping the hotel area, especially the inner courtyard. This led to amazingly lovely views of tree foliage from our second floor room. The courtyard is beautiful, and you should plan to sit there for a cup of coffee or tea or whatever. The air conditioning seemed a little too cool when we moved in, so we turned up the thermostat and the unit responded. Later, at bedtime, it seemed a little too warm, so we turned the thermostat cooler. There was no response whatever. We were able to get the fan turned on for the night. By 9:00 AM the next morning, the air conditioner came back to life. Can't help but wonder if there is an override thermostat outside of the guest's control that limits use of the air conditioner. We had a room like that in Azerbaijan, and found the override thermostat in the hallway when we were moving out. Apart from that limitation, everything worked and worked well. The hotel serves limited supper on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The offerings were good, but seemed more limited than what was offered in my stay a few years ago. Breakfast was good, with good coffee, but some things began to run out 20 minutes before the end of the breakfast period. What was absolutely exceptional was the very good quality of construction as evidenced in our room and in the public spaces. I frequently see horrible work in newer hotels, with the worst construction turning up in the guest rooms. This place must have had a good contractor and good oversight of construction by the management. Although the hotel has been in business for several years, we saw no evident wear except on the stair well carpet. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. It is hard to build a hotel this good, and also hard to keep it going as well as this one is. It was a pleasure to stay at this excellent hotel.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms tend to have better views.
