“Wouldn't Want To Stay Anywhere Else”
Reviewed 13 July 2009

We loved the Staybridge Suites. Everyone was really nice, hotel was clean, GREAT hot breakfast (scrambled eggs, round eggs with cheese, sausage, bacon, bagels, fruit, oatmeal, english muffins, muffins, pop tarts, pastries, and cereal), nice courtyard with tables and grills, and indoor pool and hot tub. They also have food in the evening, I think Tues - Thurs, which we missed both nights we were there. We stayed in a one bedroom suite. Very nicely equipped with a two burner stove, large refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave. The living room has a sofa bed and it was cramped, but we were able to fit a rollaway in there also. In the bedroom was roomy with a king bed and a vanity separate from the bathroom. This hotel is only 4 miles from downtown Kalamazoo and about 10 miles from the Air Zoo. There is a Burger King, McDonalds, Arbys, and Kmart within walking distance. I peeked into other rooms as they were being cleaned and the regular rooms looked very roomy, larger than a regular hotel room.

What a pleasant surprise, stayed last night and had a wonderful experience. Had a warm greeting at check in, room was beyond expectations very large comfy beds very clean had everything in the room you could want. We were surprised by the sundowner dinner that was offered free with our stay and not to mention a very appealing breakfast buffet, actual bacon, sausage, eggs, waffles anything you could want. My son is just starting at WMU this year and I plan on making this my permanant choice for hotel for the next 4 yrs.

As one who has grown too old for the Western Michigan dorms, I have tried out various Kalamazoo hotels for the annual Medieval Congress. This, to date, is my favorite. While the promised shuttle service from the Congress proved to be quirky at best, the hotel is well situated for those who have a car -- easy to get to from the Interstate and a quick five minutes to the Congress itself. The rooms, while hardly suites, were comfortable and about what you would expect from this category of hotel. There is a small stove, fridge, microwave, sink and basic dishes and pots/pans. There is a free packet of popcorn and envelopes of coffee, but no tea! The wireless internet did not seem to work in my room but the cable connection worked just fine. There is a nice flat screed Dell TV and a comfortable bed. The only sign of skimping was in the closet where there were but two hangers. The hotel provides, mid-week, a free light supper, which on a Thursday night was a decent-tasting chili. The buffet breakfasts were quite good for all but those who crave pastries. But for the healthier minded, there is hot and cold cereal, eggs and meat, yoghurt, fruit, etc. Like all places of this type, space for eating is tight but that goes with the territory. The afternoon cookies were excellent. There is a business center with a printer; the pool temperature was perfect for swimming a few laps and the hot tub was hot. The most outstanding feature of this hotel, however, is the level of customer service. I cannot remember when I have encountered such friendly and helpful folk.

Visiting inlaws in Kalamazoo during Christmas Holidays. We were able to host a family meal for 6 in our hotel room. The kitchen was well supplied (place setting for 4 but since the staff was so helpful on the phone, we knew to bring additional dinnerware). The staff was great. Very friendly and helpful before and during our stay. The room was beautiful with a comfortable living room / kitchenette and separate bedroom / bath suite. We felt like we got so much more for our money. And it wasn't expense. Highly recommended.

My wife and I recently spent one night there and it made us want to go back just to spend another night. The facilities are very nice, clean, contemporary and well thought out. The rooms were very quiet. The staff was professional and all had a pleasant demeanor.
The breakfast area was one of the nicer ones that we have seen in our many stays around the country. There are several seating options, including a fully enclosed outdoor courtyard with barbecue grills, and the food was not only quality but very well presented. It included the usual cereals, fruits, waffles, yogurts etc., but also had fresh cooked sausage and eggs.
If I had any complaint it would be that they still allow smoking in certain rooms (many hotels have banned it completely, and we try to find those), and the smoke smell was noticeable when coming out of the elevator on that floor.
However, don't hesitate to stay here. It's very easy to find and the price was excellent .

Great place to stay! Staff were always professional, prompt, friendly and smiling. The Manager always greeted us at breakfast each morning and ensured we had a comfortable stay. We had a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom suite – with 3 flat screen TVs, nice living room, dining table, kitchen, comfortable beds. Breakfast and Sundowner receptions were ample and tasty.

It was so comfortable and relaxing, we didn’t want to leave.

  • Liked — The size of the room and how much was included in our price.
  • Disliked — We had to go home.

The hotel is wonderful, but the some of the staff leaves much to be desired. (There are some wonderful staff, however). I have been to this hotel many times and each time I seem to get the guy checking me in who is from the East side of Michigan and always has to tell me about how far he travels for work, and check-in is always way longer than with other people.

I always check out on Saturday or Sunday morning and the lady who works both those days seems like helping anyone is her last priority. I have seen and heard her negative attitude towards customers both in person and on the phone. I was actually talking to another guest in the elevator about how the staff always seems new and the good people that are there aren't there for long.

If you are looking for a beautiful location come here. Just check in during the day and avoid the front desk on the weekends!
