“Overrated!”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

Granted pickings are slim in this region and gourmet quality is not to be expected. That however is not enough of a reason to give this eatery the ratings that it has received. There was nothing that neither I nor my sister sampled that was anything other than ordinary with the exception of the bread. The menu was not interesting and both of our meals were greasy. The service however was friendly.

“Good food, fast and friendly”

Found it listed on trip advisor so we decided to give it a try. Very good food and fast! The Cajun sledder is so yummy. Would go again

“Out of the Way but Worth it”
Reviewed 6 February 2014

Had brunch there on a snowy Saturday AM. The waitresses were wonderful, the place was clean & had a nice homey feel. There were families & snowmobilers & everyone seemed to be having a great time. Menu choices were extensive & there were lots of non-meat options. The portions were generous & our food was perfectly cooked. The homemade bread toast was the best ever. They sell loaves to go. I got the shredded-carrot-wheat bread to take home, which was yummy albeit a little lower in sodium than I would prefer. We plan on going back every year when we attend the Kalkaska Winterfest.

“Delightful, clean, and great food.”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

By the time we arrived, it was 1/2 hour til closing. You would never have known that, the hosted & waitress were extremely friendly & enthusiastic. Efficient but in no way rushing anyone. We had the smoked pork chops which were delicious as were the beer batter fries. Tables & bathrooms were clean. Most diners appeared to be seasonal/locals. It's a little out of the way, but well worth it.

“Perfect meal on the road”
Reviewed 12 October 2013 via mobile

We stopped at Shirley's while on the road. The staff was friendly. The menu has just enough variety- sandwiches and soup and breakfast all day! ( my personal favorite) The most impressive feature here is almost very thing is house made. I had corned beef hash and eggs. My cinnamon toast was really good. And the hash was some of the best I have had- nice and crispy. My friend had a sandwich with turkey, apple butter and cheese. Really good.
