There was a glimmer of hope last year when Garland changed owners. The rocks were taken out of the sand traps, reflections cart path was paved, the parking lot was re done and the front landscaping was cleaned up, its all lipstick on a pig. The one thing that needed to change the most was the service, the food and the friendliness of the wait staff, Let me take that back it did change, it got worse.
Lets talk about value, the fist thing I found was the size of the glasses your drinks come in from the beer cart got smaller, same price but less drink. The food, when you order a bacon cheeses burger make sure the bacon is there, it wasn't on mine and the quality of food….trust me, if you want a burger go to Talley's, if you want a nice dinner go to Lewiston lodge you will end up disappointed with what garland is serving you. If garland did not have golf I would not be going there, but it is the nearest course from our cottage and I find myself back there every year to golf. It is truly disappointing to have such a wonderful and beautiful place in my backyard just to have the same lack of service issues year after year. If you have money to blow and don't care about value and service you will love the place, if you work hard for your money and want something for it, go elsewhere.

Had booked the Winter Wonderland package only to find out upon check out that the balance was higher than it should have been and we were charged an Amenities fee (for use of pool, gym and trails - trails were under construction and we could not use. Who pays an Amenities fee? Isn't that why you book certain hotels? For their Amenities?
Room was okay but outdated. Staff were not overly friendly. Had to ask for a second drink at dinner. Had to ask for bread at dinner but only got the butter until the main course came. Sunday night special Chipotle steak was full of grissle and my husband could not eat it. When we complained to staff she said she would tell the Chef. No adjustment on the bill at all. We felt like we were imposing on them. Had told the front desk we would go on the sleigh ride only to find out when we went to the lobby for it that it had been cancelled for "lack of interest".
Wrote two emails to the manager and he has not replied at all.
We are big golfers and will never go there and will never recommend this hotel to anyone. Don't go.

Stayed Saturday night in one of the villas, setting was very nice but overall service was terrible. The terrible service started with calling twice days in advance to schedule a massage and was told I would be called back, never received a call. Villa room was dirty and decor was out of date. Party of 4 was seated promptly for dinner, but it took over 10 minutes to be greeted by waiter. After placing initinal drink orders we were never asked if we wanted additional cocktails or water refills. Once the waiter took our dinner order we never saw him again. Food servers did not know who got which entree. Fish was not fresh and had to be sent back. We had to flag down various wait staff for water refills. Also had to flag down waiter to obtain bill. We did enjoy the entertainment in the bar, Jeff & Sue were excellent. The bar wait staff were very friendly and attentive. Even bought a round of drinks, because they were slow in bringing one of the rounds. Overall experience for the cost of $170 for one night was just not worth it.

If you live in MI, (or actually anywhere I flew in from FL) this is a must trip! Upon checking in we were greeted with a smiling helpful clerk, she gave us our keys and we went up to our cozy cabin room with a balcony that over looked the beautiful snow covered property, just breath taking. We enjoyed a delicious dinner in the bar while listening to Jeff & Sue. The atmosphere of the resort is everything I had hoped for and more. The next day we did the cross country ski glide, the food along the way was wonderful and so were the staff manning each station. The grounds of the golf course covered in snow with well mark tails for the glide. We also did the 5 course dinner that night. We were taken by a horse drawn carriage ride through the woods to a gorgeous most delicious dinner. The staff and the singer were just perfect. I can't wait to go back next year. We all had a wonderful experience.

Our room was great, the bed was comfortable, everything worked. Towels were plentiful and thick. We knew the jacuzzi / lap pool had no atmosphere, but both exceeded our expectations. The pool was lovely for a swim and the jacuzzi was hot and bubbly. Just the thing after you'd been skiing all day. We did not want to participate in the ski glide event and the pro shop was very helpful in telling us which trails to use to avoid the glide crowd. Food was very good in the dining room and staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The entertainment in the bar was good, but it was nice to enter the dining room for a quiet dining experience.

We were disappointed that the outside patio with fireplace was closed for a private party as we were looking forward to relaxing in front of it when we returned from our ski.

My wife and I stayed in a beautiful golf cottage complete with all the amenities including a cozy fire place. On Saturday we participated in a Goumet Glide where you cross country ski from one eating and beverage experience to another. There were five stops in all including one next to a trout pond with fresh grilled trout and home made fish stew next to a blazing bon fire. The people and staff we met along the way were so helpful and delightful that they really added to the experiernce. After resting for a couple of hours in the evening we went on our first Zhivago Night. This is where Garland Lodge and Resort picks you (and the group) up in a horse drawn sliegh for a very scenic ride through the woods lasting about 30 minutes and then you arrive at Dining Cottage in the woods where your groups table is elegantly set for a six course experience with the back drop sounds of a light jazz guitarist. The Service and the Courses was out of this world.
