Wirrina Hotel & Golf Resort
Reviewed 13 May 2014

Stayed overnight for a golfing weekend with another couple. The rooms were much improved on previous visits, with bathrooms totally renovated, new carpets and paint. Hopefully the new owners will get around to updating curtains and bed spreads as these look like they've been around since the 80's. The rooms were also spotlessly clean with good linen and pillows on the beds. Breakfast buffett was ok, nothing outstanding. Now onto the restaurant as this is something that really needs attention. To see just 4 other tables occupied on a Saturday night sort of says it all. All the meals are extremely overpriced and the mains need to be somewhere between $8-$10 cheaper as the quality does not reflect the high prices being charged. To be charged $16 for 4 spring rolls that you can normally get for $7-$8 elsewhere was not good. Also $26 for just 1 lamb shank is also something that needs to be looked at by the new owners.
We'd come back again to stay at the resort but definately not eat at the restaurant.

After looking around for somewhere to spend a few nights close to Adelaide we found Wirrina. To call this place a "Resort" is a massive overstatement. And to say on their website that renovations were complete is also massively overstated. The reception area on arrival is nice, although putting massage chairs within 3 feet of the desk seems a bit stupid and not somewhere I'd want to relax. Our room was right near reception but to get our car to the room we had to drive along a pot holed road that threatened to swallow our car, up over a gutter, along a dirt road then through an arch to our room, which we couldn't park in front of because our neighbours had. Our room, on entering, was ok, BUT then you see the faults. The shower over the bath is reasonable but there's no tap to fill the bath and no plug if you wanted to fill it from the shower. The hand basin taps are not matching, the water outlet is so close to the edge of the sink that it wets the bench top, and the pipes groan if you don't put the water on full blast. Then there is the room. No Foxtel, no DVD player, the free Wi-Fi works only occasionally and the door onto the porch area could put your shoulder out. Oh and you can hear every word, and cough, and sniffle of your neighbours. Nice when you're there for a "romantic" weekend, knowing if you can hear them then they can hear you. We then went to eat at the restaurant the first night. Mistake. We were not told we needed to book. We went into an almost empty restaurant to be told to wait at the bar. Then be told we could sit only to have the first guy tell us no, wait at the bar. Needless to say we left and went to a lovely pub for dinner. After that we were so angry we decided not to bother trying again. Only thing we ate there was breakfast as it was complimentary. We upgraded at $10 each for hot breakfasts only to be disappointed as everything was overcooked and cold. Lastly, they advertise a gym. The equipment in that gym is older than I am and absolutely useless. I think these people need to take a good hard look at this place before they advertise as renovations complete. And we paid full price, no Scoopon deal.

Dear Valued Guest,

We sincerely apologize for the not so good experience you had during your stay. The resort is currently undergoing refurb which is scheduled to be completed by end of June, 2014.
It is our continuous endeavor to provide the best services to all the guest and request you to revisit us once the upgrade is complete.
The massage chairs have been placed near the counter to attend to any emergency situation. The staff has been briefed for the lapse for not having informed about the table reservation.
Also the resort has ample parking space in the front area unless the guest wishes to park the vehicle near the room.
You will understand and appreciate that the repair and maintenance is ongoing and continuous in any old and new project.
We assure you that on your next visit you will notice the improvement and to your delight.
Kindly let us have the date convenient to you for making your stay memorable on part of the management.

With best regards,
Rajesh

we were looking for family accomodation for a couple of nights in the Fleurieu Peninsula and purchased a Scoopon voucher which stated "Family Getaway to Wirrina Resort on the Stunning Fleurieu Peninsula". Having not been there for over 20 years, and hearing from others that it was pretty tired, I thought I would check the website first. Under accomodation it states "Our Brand New Family Rooms are an ideal choice for families", and the photos showed that, so naturally thought this should be a good option. Upon entering the Resort, you could see that the new owners had spent some effort tidying the place up, but when we got to our rooms we were disappointed to say the least. Had not been refurbished at all (but were in the process of, hence the old carpet rolls left in our view from the balcony, dirty windows, ongoing painting and wall repairs in the passage). OK, we didnt pay full rate, and it was generally clean and tidy, but would NOT have booked if we new this was the situation.Package also included FREE mini puttputt golf and we received a voucher for FREE golf, only to find out that when we went to play, the golf course was closed for the 2 days we were there for green repairs!! Had a meal in the restaurant which was OK, used the games room a couple of times which was fun. On the PLUS side, the staff were helpful and courteous and you can see that the new owners are trying, but may have been a bit premature and over the top with marketing. I explained to the manager that this would have been a good opportunity to get great exposure for the Resort, and change its reputation, but they blew it big time, and we won't be back, nor any of our friends.Plenty of apologies and offer to view rooms that had been upgraded, but that was it. I guess they got our money, so that should help with the refurbishment.

Room Tip: qualify if you are actually in the refurbished rooms

Second time we have stayed here, once before the renovation and once after. Apart from some vases with fake flowers, half painted walls, some added egg chairs, the removal of a super handy drinks vending machine, massage chairs which are way overpriced and the change of dinner menu to consist 75% of curry there is nothing substantial to be excited or worth mentioning. The staff are friendly but not always reliable, the restaurant is very limited in dinner options and the buffet breakfast is subpar. The view from the restaurant however is beautiful and there is always some wildlife to see. The room walls are paper thin, you can hear everything next door (we had crying children at all hours of the morning and night) as well as cars arriving and leaving and people walking down the corridor returning to their rooms. When you come to a place like this it is nice to relax and sleep in which was made impossible by the noise levels. We bought the rooms via scoopon so it was good value but what is failed to be mentioned until you get there is because of buying the room via scoopon you don't get your room serviced! Conveniently left out of terms and conditions... So for 2 epople staying they expect you to only use 1 towel and 1 roll of toilet paper over the 2 night stay... Overall it was average but we won't be back.

We stayed here a few months ago being our first visit back there for over 25 years. The room was large and comfortable just like I remembered it but was a little old. Nevertheless, it was quite comfortable and clean but could do with an upgrade.
We had fairway views and could walk out of our room close to the 10th fairway.
We also had breakfast and an evening meal there in the restaurant - both were very nice.
Its sad to see a lot of the resort not being used like it was when we last visited it. Its in a good location and close to the township of Normanville.

Went to Warrina Resort for a family wedding and had a great time.I arrived late after a long interstate drive with the family, but was surprised to find my booking was only booked for 1 night (instead for 3). The staff were very apologetic and did everything they could to get us a suitable family room for 3 nights. The wedding reception was held at the resort and the facilities were great. All staff from cleaners, front desk personnel and bar staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and very comfortable and the resort has a great pool area and mini golf/playground area. If you have kids, take them for a walk down near the marina, we found some great rock pools for discovering all sorts of crustaceans.

Room Tip: North side rooms (smallest numbers) are best.
