This is our third visit to The Crown over the past three or four years. Initially we booked via the Internet, with some trepidation,we are not very experienced at buying this way!! However we should not have worried. The Crown is an attractive building situated in a very handy situation...easy to find. The staff were so helpful and friendly,we were impressed. We had travelled from further north to visit an ageing relative and decided, should we need to return, we would again book into the Crown. We did this the following year. By this time my husband had developed Coeliacs disease making him need to strictly observe a Gluten free diet. The staff at the Crown couldn't have been more helpful and demonstrated a good understanding of his needs. They already had gluten free bread in their kitchen, most impressive as other hotels we had stayed in did not have this. Our last visit a few weeks ago went just as well. In fact the staff remembered us. The place has undergone some decorative upgrade and looks very nice. I would happily recommend anyone to stay here...we can't wait to return.

Room Tip: There is a busy room to the front of the hotel so ask for a side or rear room.

we have stayed in a few Marstons pubs/hotels before the rooms are all of the same standard and a good size the rooms on the road side are noisy but the room was clean and the service very good. The breakfast was the best one we have had in any of the Marstons inns so far. you also have the bonus the Crown a 2 for 1 house

Room Tip: A room at the rear of the hotel will be quieter

Stayed for one night and had a good stay. Room 15 is very large and was clean with a comfortable bed. Set at the back of the hotel away from any road noise..much nicer than the last room I got when I stayed here!

I ate away from the hotel but the breakfast was good in th morning.

Great value for money and a very pleasant stay.

We stayed here on Friday 24th May 2013 as a stop over for our holiday. We have stayed at Marston's pubs before and found them very pleasant. This one however has really let the Marston's name down. Our bathroom was dirty, mould on tiles and dirty shower screen. In the restaurant, I ordered chicken sizzler which happened to be beef and on complaint they said they had written down the order wrong and had given us "venison" which was not even on the menu!! My wife had lamb chops which were completely black and dried out, the vegetables were cold and so were the chips. They offered us a free dessert to make up for it!! During the evening there wasn't a waitress/waiter in the restaurant and nobody behind the bar for half an hour. The "what ever it was sizzler" tasted okay despite being wrong but the chops completely inedible. In the morning the breakfast was passable but there was a problem with the bill, they had charged us for the dessert and hadn't taken off the 20% for booking online and they had lost the restaurant bill so couldn't check it.

We have regularly visited The Crown public house. Never actually stayed overnight but have never had cause for any complaint about the restaurant facilities or the quality of the food served..
The Staff are always helpful and pleasant, the menu is always varied and the food is reliablly good. Nothing fancy or exceptional, just good!
