The Crown by Marston's Inns
Ranked #2 of 2 Hotels in Wychbold

Here's my review, based on our 9B criteria

* Bedroom – good size, TV, tea and coffee provided.

* Bed – fine.

* Bathroom – not all rooms have a bath but ours did, and was good size.

* Breakfast – disappointing. Cereals fine but the fruit bowl just had several apples and pears, most/all were bruised. Not sure how anyone could put that out for guests. The cooked breakfast was greasy and "premium" sausages definitely were not.

* Bar – fair selection of wines and very good support of ales, as you would expect from Marstons.

* Bods – the responsiveness of the guys here made a big difference; we booked a cot and although it had not been done, they fixed it immediately, plus a couple of other things helped us out.

* Budget – the price by booking direct was great.

* Back (i.e. would we return?) – the rooms were fine but the food really needs to improve. We also had dinner, which was ok, but the naan bread tasted as if it had been cooked in the microwave - pretty basic!!

* Beyond the hotel...this hotel is literally on the main road. It is not somewhere to stay if you want to walk around, but fine if you're just using it as a base and happy to eat in the same place. It also seems that Service Charge might not all go to the staff - come on Marstons, be fair.

I stayed with my wife at this pub for one night a couple of weeks back having booked direct on the Marston's website at an extremely good rate (which matched or bettered the usual booking sites). Booking on-line direct had the added bonus of a 20% discount on meals. Additionally, by registering for Marston's newsletter we both received vouchers for a free drink which made our evening meal very economical. The food was absolutely fine and service was good. We asked for a quieter room on our arrival and were given a room at the back of the pub (12). There was road noise (it is near the M5 and A38 so this is unavoidable) but excellent double glazing prevented this being a problem. The bedroom and bathroom were a good size and were well presented and clean. The only criticism was that the toilet could have been cleaned a little more thoroughly but otherwise it was great.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the building are away from the main road and the bar.

This is a Marston's Inn serving well presented Banks beers on draught. The rooms have not suited every reviewer but for the price they are excellent value, and as good as one can expect in a pub with the facilities one would expect. The restaurant serves above average pub grub at competitive prices. Vegetables are well cooked and of better variety than one might expect

Room Tip: Room 10 has skylights only but is much cheaper

Only been here once and decided to have the BBQ chicken. It was dry and flavourless, and the sauce itself wasn't great. People who say it's great value are deluded. It's only 2 for 1 because the price is double the amount of most it's competitors, so you're not really gaining anything. Not much more to say really, other than crap. Perhaps that's a bit harsh but it's very average! For more reviews check out my page! -Tripadvisor's reviewer of the year

The hotel is situated close to the M5 and is well-situated for exploring the Worcestershire countryside. The accommodation is clean and there is free wifi. The pub food is really good and reasonably priced. Food finishes at 10 and there is no room service, but that is reflected in the price. The staff are polite and friendly.

Room Tip: Some rooms only have a roof window which I personally don't care for.

Not a review of the Hotel but just the restaurant. We visited in the evening at about 7.15pm, there were a few people in probably enticed there by the main and specials being 'buy one get one free' Sat down for quite a while having seen a waitress taking orders at tables. After about 10 to 15 minutes went to the bar whilst the waitress was there and asked if I should order food and drinks at the bar. She and the barman, without uttering a single word walked off in different directions. The barman came back eventually and I asked the same question to which he abruptly said that I could but my order could also be taken by the waiting staff at the table. I said that I would have a pint of lager to which he said that they would also take drinks orders at the table. After sitting down for a while a young man came to take the order. We both went for the Specials 'Buy one get one free' Plaice, chips and peas. A while later we were presented with cajan chicken which was obviously wrong and sent back. Eventually we got the right order and the young man who delivered it was very efficient and apologetic regarding the wrong order. If I was visiting on my own and paid the full price for the plaice meal I am not sure that it would have been tremendous value for money bearing in mind the ratio of fish to batter but at a 2 for 1 it wasn't so bad. Not sure that I would visit again. The main credit to the establishment was the skilful avoidance of eye contact by the waitress when people were trying to attract her attention.

Needed somewhere in Droitwich for an early start and this was perfect. Good location just a few minutes off M5. Large car park to right of the pub. Entry through pub but separate door to left of pub when the pub is shut (after you've got your keys!). Pub had 3 Marstons group beers on hand pump but food finished by 10pm which was no problem for us.

Room upstairs exactly as picture except comfortable double bed. Room had hairdryer, freeview, free wifi, kettle and tea/coffee plus two bottles of complimentary water. No fridge. Bathroom had complimentary toiletries. Not so many rooms, quiet, no noise from other rooms during our stay. We were front of building looking onto road, effective secondary double glazing on character building. Room very warm. Perhaps an issue if you need the windows open for temperature and the busy road. But that's the way it is.

Morning breakfast in the conservatory, freshly cooked, plentiful and whatever you wanted from the standard English cooked fare plus usual cereal/milk/fruit juice.

Would definitely return. Staff a real plus, genuine nice non-stuffy people with a sense of humour working really hard to make you at home.
