“Warm Victorian B&B that felt like home”
Reviewed 20 August 2013

From front desk, Barb, who gave us detailed directions, boat recommendations, and a great walk-in rate, to the entire staff, everyone was excellent. Hot full breakfast, cookies, dessert, and complimentary drinks all day. Beautiful Victorian rooms were cozy, not large, but plenty for two lovebirds! Clean, sweet, and unique. The staff are the kindest most genuine people you'd like to know, they make you feel more like friends than just visitors. Rosie and Harold really went above and beyond in service and hospitality. Harold even gave me a hug and smiling said, "see you next time". We will definitely return.

The Bay View Inn is darling from the outside and in a great location right on the water on the edge of town. Breakfasts were pretty good, great coffee, and we enjoyed the cookies and lemonade in the afternoon on the side porch.

However, as a few other posters mentioned, the interior of the property is quite shabby and dirty. The carpet is worn and stained, and the walls are covered with dirty marks. The carpentry and plumbing in our room was comical. The bedding and upholstered furniture, however, seemed relatively new. We looked at a few other rooms, and they were all about the same in terms of needing a good cleaning and painting.

Yes, the rooms are teeny tiny. At least ours was. We didn't spend much time there, so it didn't matter.

My Aunt with whom I was traveling told me that many of the hotels/inns on the island are in similar condition. Sure enough, when we saw rooms in a few other places on the island, they were underwhelming. Even The Grand could use some updating.

For me, cleanliness and appearance are important. I wouldn't stay there again.

We had suite. Clean room but not comfortable for family. Sofa bed horrible and king bed had ancient, lumpy pillows. Not good. Food and waitstaff in dining area were fabulous. Views of harbor are good. Easy access to town and Mission Point. We had no interaction with management. Housekeeping didn't get to our room until 3pm....it was a bit awkward as we had been out enjoying day and came back to freshen up only to find room not cleaned and had housekeeping in room when we thought we could relax. Overall.. Bay View ok room with great food.

My husband and I stayed here with our 10-year old daughter. We shared a small room with a queen bed and a twin bed. One window looked out onto the water. It was perfect for us. The weather was lovely, so we often sat on the back sun deck and front porch. The breakfasts, afternoon cookies, and evening desserts were wonderful. All the employees were friendly and warm. The B&B has a nice location on the main street. The shops and most restaurants are only several minutes by walking.

We have been to Mackinac many times but always stayed on the other end of Main Street. We stayed 2 nights. We were pleased with this location. Bay View Wait staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. Breakfast, afternoon tea and evening deserts yummy. We stayed in room 104, it was small but common for many historic inns. The bed was comfy. TV was on table. No drawers. One chair. Closet but no place to sit anything. Bathroom good size, has 2nd door from hallway that should be removed to add storage shelves. Only storage one small corner shelf over sink. we only had one duffle bag as luggage. Common sitting areas nice. Nice sun porch on 2nd floor overlooking bay. We won't stay there again because of the cramped room. I would also not allowing children under 12. There was a large family staying with several children infant plus 2 two or three year olds that were very loud and disruptive during breakfast and evening deserts. Ruined ambience for others. Parents did not try to control behavior. Up note: flowers lovely and front porch nice for relaxing

Room Tip: Request bay view room.

My wife and I stayed a week here during the Chicago to Mackinac boat race. The place is conveniently located just a short walk from main drag, the food is decent and the rooms are clean. The bathroom and shower were a bit small and awkward to use. But it adds a certain charm to the place, I suppose. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the first floor. It would be too loud due to being near the front door. PS- Try the...

This place is in an exceptional location. It is just far enough away from all of the hustle and bustle of the center of town, yet is close enough that a short walk will get you anywhere on Main/Market Streets in less than 10-12 minutes! There is a wonderful sun deck that overlooks the harbor. It was our favorite spot in the place. Our second favorite spot was the front porch, beautifully decorated with gorgeous flowers in bloom and wonderfully comfy furniture to sit and watch the people go by. We ate our delicious breakfast outside on the side patio each morning and watched the boats come in/go out of the harbor. It was a fantastic way to start our day. Speaking of breakfast, Rosie & her team do an outstanding job with hot breakfasts (quiche, baked french toast, and filled eggs souffle), homemade cookies in the afternoon and dessert between 8 and 9 in the evening! And they do all that with smiles all around. This staff is exceptional and, even though our room was disappointing, we would stay here again because of them.

The room (see "tips" below) was very small and looked as though it needed a thorough cleaning (comforter, rug, drapes seemed like they hadn't been completely cleaned in a long time). The walls throughout the house needed to be painted (lots of scuffs and marks lined the walls). The broken bricks leading to the front door need to be replaced. The third floor staircase landing was filled with gnatty bugs that come in through the windows. This was quite disgusting and I had to see it every single time I went up to my room on the third floor. A quick wipe down of the window sill each morning would have done wonders for guest morale! Quite honestly, for the money you pay, I expected the place to be in much better shape. Further, the front desk staff was a bit sketchy too. Some were helpful, some were downright clueless. Luckily, we do not need a lot of assistance, so we were fine on our own, but had to do some research while we were there and that takes up our valuable time on vacation.

All in all, the location, the food and the sundeck/front porch would get us to come back, but only if we have a better (unfortunately this means more expensive, the master suite goes for $455 a night) and bigger room. Not sure if this place is worth $455 per night, I think they would have to do a LOT of spiffing up for me to fork over that kind of money for a room in this B and B!

Room Tip: Try to avoid room 304 or any of the smaller rooms on the third floor. You barely have enough room t...
