“Coming and Stay with Family and Friends”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 September 2013

I have been in Michigan for about 19 months. The trip to Mackinac Island, was my very first trip to "up North". A married couple, friends with us, knew that we were going to Mackinac, and recommended Bay View B&B as "the Place" to stay: they have been coming here for I can't remember how long to celebrate their anniversary. So we decided to follow their suggestion and make reservations at Bay View B&B: my first ever experience with a B&B.
The Island is magical: being myself from an island, I'm from Puerto Rico, it was the closest thing to be "back home" as I can get. It is like traveling back in time, no motorized vehicles, horses buggies, bicycles, people walking, everyone smiling, relaxed: in general a very inviting atmosphere.
When it comes to describe Bay View, honestly is like coming and spending a long weekend at some of your family's place. It doesn't feels like you are staying at a "Bed and Breakfast" where you don't know anyone.
In my opinion "The binding agent" is Ms. Rose (Rosie). She treats everyone like everyone is a member of her family. That you are coming to "your own" place to spend the weekend with family and friends and having an awesome time.
This energetic, full of life, lovable, happy, AMAZING COOK lady is a dream come true.
She is in charge of making the most wonderful breakfasts each morning and then home made desserts every evening.
Our favorite of her breakfast, if I dare to name one as favorite over another, was the cheesy potatoes. You can tell that she puts love in everything she prepares for her guests.
They also have their own brand of coffee: awesome. We bought couple bags to take home so "the experience" will last bit longer.
The staff is welcoming as well: Angie (one of the other ladies who work in kitchen and keeping up the whole place), one other lady and a guy (which I do not remember their names now) and Harold with his ever-contageous-smile.
We stayed at The Harbor Suite. I am pretty sure that any room will be as magical as the others.
It was so sad to come back to reality when we said our goodbyes....but there's always a tomorrow and we already book for next year, to stay around the same time of the year, a week before our wedding, to come back and stay at our "family's" B&B in Mackinac Island.

Room Tip: Bring walking shoes and your bicycle

We loved our stay at Bay View! The staff was not only very friendly and caring, but it was evident they enjoy their work! My husband is gluten-free, and Rosie, the chef, went out of her way to make his breakfasts special (and very tasty!), and she even baked him his own muffins and cookies! He definitely felt pampered! There isn't much night life on the island, but we didn't mind. We were back at the B & B each evening at 8 for Rosie's amazing desserts.

The inn is located right on the harbor. You couldn't ask for a more perfect location. Our room was small (but lovely), but we spent most of our time out on the back deck overlooking the water or strolling down the quiet streets or downtown eating fudge (There are 18 fudge shops on the island!).

We loved the island, and we definitely plan on returning, and when we do, we will once again be staying at Bay View!

Bay View is not a B&B - it's a treasure chest full of jewels. The location is near perfect. A hint - the Arnold Ferry is closest to the Bay View. The views are outstanding. And, while much has been made of the nostalgic "clop-clop", if you crack your windows you can hear the bugler at the fort before you go to sleep and, if you're up at that hour, early in the morning. Rose, the cook, a jewel in her own right, will start your day with a scrumptious breakfast and end it with an outstanding dessert. Should you find yourself there around three pm. you'll find warm cookies. A caveat: Rose's desserts are so good that you'll want to skip dessert dining out for the evening meal. The decor is great and our room while small was quite comfortable. This was our first visit and now we know why so many of our fellow guests were repeat customers. I should mention that our visit was in late September not during the peak summer months. We'll be joining the ranks of repeaters as this was a most pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Corner rooms have great views but are more "compact"

Felt at home from the second we walked in. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly! Great attention to detail. Wonderful ambiance. Nice room with a beautiful view. Loved the breakfast, mid day cookies, but missed the dessert. Would definitely recommend staying here!!

We stayed at this lovely Bed & Breakfast with friends. We have stayed at a few B&B's over the years. This one tops the list! The service was excellent, the food was wonderful. They even served an evening dessert They brought it to us, whether we were out on the front porch, or sitting out back overlooking the bay. And the shared their recipes! The location is within walking distance to town and the pier. There is a bicycle rental company right next door. We wouldn't have changed a thing. Except maybe stretching our three nights into a few more. Would love to go back someday.

This is my second visit to the Bay View. Good Luck finding somewhere more welcoming and inviting and caring! You need to remember that this is an OLD HOUSE that was built in 1891. The rooms are SMALL. Be ready to deal with that. But you are not coming to Mackinac Island to stay in your room, so get over it. It's the only B&B on the waterfront and is immediately adjacent to the marina. If you don't get a room with your own balcony, go out on the large back deck overlooking Lake Huron to enjoy the chaise lounges, umbrella tables, etc. Yes, the linens are getting tired and worn, there is a large stain on one of our upholstered chairs, the carpets are ready for some TLC, but the food and hospitality are beyond the pale. Rosie cooks wonderful breakfasts every day and has for years, then out come the warm cookies at 3:00 p.m. followed by desserts that will kill you between 8-9 p.m. Special Bay View coffee flows all day long, and it is available for purchase along with glassware, etc. Nice touch? An anniversary greeting of flowers, coffee and mugs to take home, delivered to our room with a lovely card. When you stay at the Bay View, it truly feels like home.

Room Tip: Rooms are on three floors - no elevator - so be prepared to deal with stairs. I have been on the se...

We had such a delightful time, and will certainly be back to visit you at Bay View. The accommodations are lovely - the porch a true delight. Our breakfasts and deserts were delicious, and I think we ate more than our share of cookies. With all of that being said, I want to share the best part of our stay - the beautiful staff. Joyful, helpful, and truly welcoming. The office staff was great - Rose is amazing, Harold a treat. Everyone helped to make our stay a highlight of the summer.
I appreciated finding my necklace slide in an envelope and tucked into my luggage. Thank you.
Enjoy the rest of summer - know you are making a difference in the lives of those you touch.

Room Tip: We planned to spend little time in our room, so selected a smaller one and loved it. Street side wi...
