I grew up on the Island and my parents, sibling and an aunt live there year-round. We visit frequently. In the past we had commuter ticket books with Arnold and then Sheplers. Star Line has taken over winter service so it makes sense to purchase tickets with them, but apparently they have chosen to not continue to extend the ability of buying commuter books to those of us unable to obtain a resident card or without employment on the Island. Even though Mackinac is home, I was told my only option is to buy a round-trip ticket every single time, which adds up very quickly. I understand policies are necessary, but feel this is a misplaced one that penalizes Island families. It is very easy to prove I’m not “every other person visiting from Northern Michigan” as I was told on the phone. Please rethink your policies and apply some “out of the box” logic.

So happy to see the Catamaran back in action with Star Line! The online reservation system was super easy to use and saves you $$ if you just plan a bit ahead. Lines can be long in the Summer, so try to get there a bit early. Super friendly staff. The BEST way to get to the island!!

We booked our tickets well in advance but had to wait quite a bit to catch the ferry as the one coming back from the island was delayed. Nevertheless we enjoyed our rides. Check their website for discounted pricing and would recommend buying the package with carriage tour and butterfly house of you intend to visit those while on the island.

We read online that there was free day parking but when we pulled up the parking attendant said 10 dollars. We were surprised but then he said we could park at their free lot " but it's pretty far away." We were even more suprised and then he reluctantly said he could call a shuttle to us. We ended up paying 10 dolars to park in close gravel lot. The ferry ride was fun and the staff on the boat was great. We bought the flex pass so we could ride the slower boat out and take the faster one back. When leaving we showed up a few minutes before scheduled fast boat and the slow was was there they told is the fast one broke so there won't be another one until 8.so we didn't get to ride on it, and when we got to the dock I asked the dock staffed what happend to the other boat and they said it was just down for maintenance. Other than that it was good but I think we will take Shepler's next trip.

We were spending our 25th Wedding Anniversary at the Grand Hotel and took the Star line across. it was very organized with a drive up area to off load our luggage. We boarded the ferry and just sat back and enjoyed the short ride over from Saint Ignace. Our luggage was sent directly to the Hotel without any problems. Always our number one service to use to get us to the Island.
