I grew up on the Island and my parents, sibling and an aunt live there year-round. We visit frequently. In the past we had commuter ticket books with Arnold and then Sheplers. Star Line has taken over winter service so it makes sense to purchase tickets with them, but apparently they have chosen to not continue to extend the ability of buying commuter books to those of us unable to obtain a resident card or without employment on the Island. Even though Mackinac is home, I was told my only option is to buy a round-trip ticket every single time, which adds up very quickly. I understand policies are necessary, but feel this is a misplaced one that penalizes Island families. It is very easy to prove I’m not “every other person visiting from Northern Michigan” as I was told on the phone. Please rethink your policies and apply some “out of the box” logic.
