While on Mackinac Island we rented a horse and buggy. We had been in Horns Bar and another person there told us about Jacks and that we could take a horse and buggy out by ourselves to tour the Island. We went there and sure enough they set us up with a horse and buggy. They gave us King, a big black Belgium horse. When I was very young I worked for a farmer who still used horses on his dairy farm, but that was long ago and King made me a little nervous. He looked young, and ready to go. Well they hooked him up and walked us down the road and taught us how to handle King and how to operate the buggy. It was a wonderful adventure. With King, we were king of the road. As we went along, a lot of the local drivers knew King and called him by name. He was fast, and took us where we wanted to go. He knew the way and would stop when it came times for us to decide what way we wanted to go. It was a wonderful time, and so beautiful traveling around the Island with the King.
