... but not to worry, you just pay your money, volunteer a driver from your group and head out.
The horse (we had Bud, who I highly recommend) knows the way. You can pretend you're in charge if that makes you feel better, but the horse will take you where you want to go without your guidance, and at the speed of his choice. He'll even stop at the hot dog stand a mile or so down the road.
After an hour or so, you'll pretty much have had your fill of all the sensory experiences that the back end of a horse can provide, and he'll navigate his way back into town, picking up the pace as he gets closer to the stable.
If you really want to see the island, rent a bike. But renting a horse and buggy will make a much better story for the folks back home.
