“4th year staying there and will be back”

We love this hotel and are not dissapointed every year. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Never stayed on the second floor before and really liked it. You can hear the pool noise from the room but the staff is really good at enforcing quiet time at 10 pm.

The only negative is the breakfast. It has been going down hill and this year was just not good. I wish the rooms had frigs in them but other than that we love this hotel.

First time staying at the Lake View. We have stayed on mackinac island probably half a dozen times. Overall, the hotel is nice. The staff is typical of the island (as in not from the united states), but EXTREMELY friendly, efficient, and amazing! The condition of the hotel was very nice, especially compared to others we have seen on the island. The indoor pool is probably the best selling point. It is a huge attrium with skylights to the outside. So if the weather is bad (cold, raining, whatever), you can still have a great day by the pool!

The room as I stated was nice. And as we traveled in and out of the hotel during our 2 day stay, we saw many of the other rooms at the hotel as they were being cleaned. They all looked really decent. Some are smaller, but that's to be expected on Mackinac. Some do have the floor air conditioner units, but that is really a minor thing. I wouldn't have a problem with that - especially if it were 100 degrees outside.

The other cool thing they have is nice sized porches. Not per room (as our room wasn't on the outside, it opened to the pool/attrium - which was REALLY COOL). But - each floor has a community porch. All very nice for sipping a drink and watching the goings on. The 3rd floor (where we stayed) had a GREAT view from the porch/balcony. Sit up there while the sun sets (behind you to the west). You get to watch the bay go from sunny to dark - very cool.

All in all - nice place. Would definitely go there again. We go the family plan, which was cool. It was about $500, for 2 nights. BUT - it included 4 round trip ferry tickets AND $100 to use at the restaurant (good fellows). AND - the $100 food voucher ALSO included 15% tip and sales tax - so it was really worth more like $121. Great deal all around!

We were a family with kids and chose the Lake View because of it's location and in door pool. We loved the location right on main street and felt it a plus that we could choose to walk out the front door, turn left to be in the hustle & bustle of town or turn right and be in the park & upon the boardwalk. Great to sit on one of three balconies to watch the town and ferries come to & from the island. Pool area was nice! Having Goodfellows on site was also a great convenience. Rooms were a little dated but expected decor for the island. We had a Lakeview room and loved the dining table and desk area. We thought it was worth the upgrade dollars. Coffee always available in lobby. Friendly & helpful staff. Continental Breakfast was nice in the mornings. Not a 4 course meal, but enough to get you full & ready for the day. I feel the bad reviews on this site must come from people expecting a luxury hotel. The island is the most enchanting place to be, focus on the fact that you are lucky enough to stay on the island in a charming hotel that gives you a true one of a kind experience. Everything on the island takes a little more money...but is completely worth it !!! Would stay again, enjoyed our stay!

We have stayed here many times and this trip was the 1st time we were disappointed. The room prices have increased in part due to air conditioning in every room. These air conditioners that sit on the floor and connect via a hose to the exterior are not very good. We had 2 rooms. Room 214 had the floor unit and the room was uncomfortably hot. Also the window coverings were white, plastic mini-blinds, without curtains to cover the blinds, the room was very bright in the morning. No sleeping in on that vacation. The bathrooms in both rooms were dirty. The wall paper was peeling off the walls and the floors needed a good scrubbing. Also, a bathtub clothesline for the swimming suits would have been nice for the new price of these rooms.

The beds were actually better than on past trips. They seemed to have new linens and pillows. The pool, hot tub, & sauna are still the major selling points. All very nice. The hotel staff is very nice and helpful as they always have been. The front lobby and porch area is very nice except for the new rocking chairs on the porch. They are weighted to the rear of the runners and will cause a person to flip back into the wall or window. Very uncomfortable, no one was rocking in those crazy chairs.

The free continental breakfast in the morning consists of toast, bagels, pastry, bananas, and cheerios. $5 for an omelet (the line was for omelets was practically out the door the one morning we ate there). Not impressive, but free so whatever. We ate elsewhere after our first experience with it.

This has been our favorite Mac Island hotel for many years, but next time we will try something else. Still, the indoor pool can't be beat for little kids, the location on Front St. is fantastic, right across from the Starr Line Ferry dock and Mary's restaurant (one of the best on Mac Island!). The porch is lovely, let's hope they replace those chairs. Very good bike parking on the Lilac Lane for hotel guests. I think if they are going to continue to charge ~ $250/night for regular rooms, then they need to add a descent breakfast option, a daily newspaper, a clean bathroom, a clothesline, proper drapes, and air conditioners that cool. Just my opinion.

Room Tip: Ask for room in the back (darker in the morning) with a regular window air conditioner.

We loved the hotel. The beds felt new. The pool was nice and warm, they cover it every night, even though it is indoors. The airconditioner in our room was loud, but it covered the hallway noise. We had no windows in our room, which is a shame. We spent most of the time outdoors anyway. We would definitly consider staying here again.

I grew up in Michigan and I really wanted to show my husband this magnificent island. The staff was amazing and I was able to secure a last minute affordable deal to stay here. The rooms are nice, and the staff made a swan out of towels on our bed. I always get a kick out of that. Our room had a really nice big bath tub too. I like that.

Great location. Easy access to everything. I love how walkable this island is. We were really close to carriage rentals and bike rentals too. I thought it would be loud at night considering we were right in the center of things, but it wasn't. Everything calms down at night and is peaceful. Even though there is A/C in the rooms, I found the rooms didn't cool down as much as I am used to, but it wasn't a problem and I slept fine. The rooms are simple, but nice and clean.

Our room reservation came with a coupon to eat at the Chophouse there in the hotel. I was excited to have some surf and turf. I must admit, i was a little disappointed. The food was just ok. I was expecting more, especially from how our waiter hyped it up. The food was good, but not great. Glad we had the coupon.

The island, of course, is so much fun. We rode tandem bikes around the island, saw all the butterflies at the Butterfly House and took a horse and carriage ride to a restaurant a little further out.

My husband and two year old stayed here for two nights in early August. The hotel was nicely decorated, with samples of fudge upon check-in (yum!). We asked for early check in, and they were able to get us in an hour before the guaranteed check in time of 3pm. No problems getting our luggage from the ferry dock to the hotel or having it stored while we waited for our room. The front desk clerk even offered to store my husband's laptop behind the counter for safe-keeping. There are a line of white rocking chairs on the porch overlooking the main street, great for people watching, if you can snag one (they are open to anyone, including those not staying at the hotel). The location was perfect for being close to everything on the main drag, however after a day we grew tired of the throngs of day-trippers crowing the streets from 10am-6pm. If you walked a few blocks in either direction it thinned out, thankfully. We booked the cheapest room we could get (still pricey, but so is all of the Island). Our room was nicely sized, with a good size bathroom and tub, seating nook, and a view of one of the side streets. The hotel is in the process of replacing their room A/C units, so we had one sitting on the floor by the seating nook. At one point it stopped working so we called the front desk to send someone to fix it - the maintenance man was very friendly, explained and quickly fixed the problem (condensation build up), stating the issue would be permanently fixed once the units were installed in the windows. He showed us how to operate it (the remote was hidden in a drawer) and went on his way. The hotel has a nice indoor atrium with a pool and hot tub. The complimentary continental breakfast was nice but nothing special compared to other hotels that also include breakfast. The hotel enforces quiet hours from 10p-7a, and for the most part this worked great, however our last night there we had an extremely loud neighbor at 2-3am that kept us up. We did eat at the hotel restaurant, Goodfellows, to which I've written a separate review (overpriced for average food). All in all, given that every hotel on the Island is quite pricey and most do not include breakfast, this was a nice place to stay for the money. However, in general if we were to visit again we would likely stay on the mainland in St. Ignace or Mackinaw City, save the money and take a day trip in instead.
