“Another nice stay at Lake View”
Reviewed 5 September 2007

The hotel is clean and basically well kept. All of the hotels on the Island are older so even though they are rather expensive, they do not compare to 3 or 4 star hotels. We like the Lake View. This is our 2nd stay there. The indoor pool is a nice relaxing break. Even over Labor Day weekend when the Island is busting with tourists, the pool was uncrowded. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location at the end of Main St is great because you're close to everything yet sort of out of the hustle and bustle. We will definitely stay there again.

  • Liked — The indoor pool and the location on the Island
  • Disliked — Older hotel (not unlike the other hotels on Mackinac) so the walls are a little thin and you can hear people walking around above you, etc.

I have been to the island many times. This was our first stay at the Lake View. The room was good, not great. We had a room overlooking the pool, no problems with noise, however the pool closes at 10PM and they were there at 10 to shut it down. The room itself was nice, a little dark, and the staff was helpful. We enjoyed the front porch with the rocking chairs. The atmosphere of the island is always great. We did eat at Goodfellows once, the food was fine, service was okay. The waiter we had this day acted like he would rather be somewhere else. The hotel itself could be cleaner on the outside. I noticed other locations that had better landscaping, and were regularly cleaning the outside of the building. The Lakeview had spider webs throughout the front porch and the outdoor carpeting needed replaced. Compared to other places on the island I would rate this a 6. When I return to the island I will probably stay elsewhere, but I will stop by to visit the Lake View Hotel.

i'm so lucky I found this hotel at the last minute, great location, great hotel! They were so nice at the hotel, we got so many discounts around the island, The hotel was pretty expensive, but it was worth it. We had a room above the pool, which was pretty loud. We ate at Goodfellows, also expensive, decent food. They were very nice, bringing our bags straight from the ferry to the room. Wireless was very convenient. Nothing extra like free breakfast, we could've had breakfast at the motel restaurant (Goodfellows), which was pricey, so we ate at the nearby Village Inn, which was very good. Highly recommended!!!

  • Liked — Staff was courteous, kind, polite, very helpful
  • Disliked — Room was next to the pool, very loud!

We stayed at the Lakeview during Memorial Day weekend this year 2007. As soon as we arrived at the hotel our reservations were not correct. The hotel clerk said he saw the problem but would not tell us what the problem was, he talked down to us. We stayed at another hotel the next day when we came back to the Lakeview our rooms that were promised to be cleaned first thing still were not ready for us. The luggage was left next to the pool, we were promised the luggage would be taken directly to the room after several hours we finally went down and got it ourselves. There was a wedding and the room that the reception was held in was a short distance from the hotel front desk the partying went on well into the wee hours of the morning until someone complained the front desk did nothing. We heard the noise and we were several floors up. We wanted to talk to the manager and were told he was not available until late June. Not a friendly hotel. The front rooms were very small. When a roll-a-way bed was brought in it was very difficult to get around you had to crawl across the king size bed to get to the chair and phone. The room was clean but very small. Very disappointed with the hotel. Would not stay here again.

We stayed at the Lakeview Hotel for one night in September. The front desk was very accomodating in letting us check in early as we were going to a wedding and needed to change. The room we had was large with a good view. It had 2 queen beds and a sitting area with a desk. It was pricey for us, but I guess that 's how it is on the island. We were on a busy street and I wonder how noisy it is in peak season. Take the Star Ferry to get here as it is right across the street. The Lakeview has a big lobby with a porch out front with rocking chairs. We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant and found that the quality was not very good and the food was overpriced. The beds were very comfortable but would like a coffee maker in the room. Would stay here again if the price was right.

We stayed one night in room 243. It was a good size room but the bathroom was tiny. The furniture is dated. I found the beds small. Everything was clean. The staff were all very nice to us. The lobby is beautiful. We enjoyed the pool and whirlpool, which was open until 10:00 p.m. They have a cool little bar downstairs. It must be popular, as it was busy that night. We ate at Goodfellows for breakfast and again the staff was very nice. The food was good too. Overall, it was a good stay. It was the most I ever paid for a room and I guess I thought the room would be a bit nicer, but I think you are just paying to stay on the Island. We did enjoy the atmosphere more at night. Shops were open till 9:00 p.m. I would definetely stay on the Island again, but would like to try a different hotel just to compare to Lake View.

  • Liked — Restaurant/Lounge
  • Disliked — Decor in the Rooms
  • Tips/Secrets — 1 elevator, which was always busy! We were stayed on the 2nd floor so we didn't need to use it.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in the Presidential Suite. We were impressed as soon as we walked into the lobby. It was very clean and the women at the front desk were very friendly. Our room was more than we could have imagined. The bedroom area consisted of two king sized beds and a tv, while the living room area also had a tv, and a dining room table, a couch and 2 chairs. The room had many windows to look out of, which gave us a few different views of downtown and the lake. At night, we were able to see the large ships go by, which truly was a sight! The hotel is located downtown, so you don't have to walk far to go shopping or to get something to eat. Lake View's restaurant had excellent food, but it was a little pricey. As for the service we recieved, they were very nice and pretty quick. Overall, my husband and I are going back to the island sometime in the near future and will definitely stay at The Lake View again. Also, the dock boys that took our luggage to and from the hotel were also very friendly.
