Description: We are excited to introduce Sadie’s Ice Cream Parlor, named after Sadie who was awarded “Best in Show” at the 2010 Westminster Dog Show, and owned by hotel proprietors Mr. and Mrs. Musser. The perfect new addition to America’s Summer Place opened May 3rd, 2013 with a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 1st, 2013. The Ice Cream Parlor features 24 delicious flavors from Hudsonville Ice Cream, a Michigan-based company. In addition to ice cream cones, Sadie’s will feature shakes, sundaes and a special Grand Sundae built to share and served in a dog bone shaped bowl. This classic American ice cream parlor has been decorated by Grand Hotel’s interior designer Carleton Varney. Inside you will find cafe tables with white marble tops accompanied by cafe chairs with twisted iron. Outside will be custom twisted iron benches and cafe tables with black marble tops. The parlor is located outside the hotel’s east entrance, and open to all Mackinac Island visitors with no hotel admission fee.

Sadie's is located at the end of the Grand Hotel, the first place you come to when you arrive at the top of the hill where the hotel is situated. It is colorful both inside and out and has a fun old-fashion ice cream shoppe atmosphere. They have a large selection of ice cream and if you prefer, you can ask to have your ice cream cone served in a cup rather than a cone. A single scoop was $4, which seems pricey, but the scoop was much larger than what you would generally consider one scoop of ice cream. Because of the large size, I found it much easier to eat from a cup than in a cone. The ice cream is delicious and I had no trouble devouring the large "single" scoop of moose tracks ice cream that I ordered. If you want a smaller portion you can order a "kids cup" at a cost of $2 (even if you are not a kid). Sadie's if a fun experience for all ages to enjoy great ice cream, friendly staff, and a nostalgic atmosphere.

If your craving a good ol' fashioned sundae...this is the place to be! Their ice cream is soft, creamy and delicious! It doesn't have frozen icicles around it like other ice cream places where the ice-cream has been hanging out for awhile. Very refreshing. It's at the Grand hotel, once you go up the hill (if your on the bike, you burn the calories your going to be consuming so it's a good thing!) and you will see the ice cream parlor adjacent to the hotel. Be warned you will be scowled upon if you intend on leaving your bike in front cause your eager to get your ice-cream, but the grand hotel doesn't like bike traffic once you reach them...so park your bike across from them and get some delicious scoops of ice-cream you deserve for that uphill ride. :-)
I recommend their banana split sundae and trying one of their seasonal flavors.

They have great ice cream here but a personal fourite of mine, which I would highly recommend, are the miniature Grand Peacon Balls! They're the perfect size for an afternoon snack and much more portable than their full size counterpart offered at all the Grand Hotel restaurants.

On a recent trip to Mackinac Island, we had the pleasure of visiting Sadie's Ice Cream Parlor at the Grand Hotel. First of all, the decor of the ice cream parlor was reminiscent of a lot of the classic, old-time places from the past, and everything was colored in black, red, and white. Sadie's serves ice cream made by Hudsonville Ice Cream Company, which is located in Holland, Michigan, and it is everything that ice cream should be -- creamy, flavorful, and just plain delicious! We split a Hot Fudge Sundae, which was humongous, and chose Butter Pecan and Coconut Chocolate, both of which were outstanding choices, topped off with whipped cream, and a marschino cherry. Needless to say, being the true ice cream afficionado's that we are, we were in Seventh Heaven. So I highly recommend a trip to Sadie's Ice Cream Parlor on your next visit to beautiful Mackinac Island.

This ice cream shop is new to the island this year. I had heard the ice cream was kind of pricey here. Well, I had the regular size cone and the portions size was well worth the price. It was very generous. I ate here twice during my visit to Mackinac Island. I highly recommend the coconut chocolate flavor! Yum!
