“Delicious Dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014

We arrived at the Inn late and hungry and had dinner right there. It was delicious! We both took the advice of our waiter and tried the chicken with cherry sauce. It was so good! We almost went back the next night to have it again!

“Exceptional and Fresh”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

Our expectation of a chop house was of a smokey dark closed room amidst tables packed with patrons all chomping on meat in various states of char, smothered in onions, garlic, butter, cheese, and other spices. And don't forget the beer from the bottomless tap - all of it warm in frosted glasses. Chop houses were not high on our list, so when our B&B offered us a table on our anniversary celebration in their chop house we were less than excited ... until we looked at the menu.

Kudos all around! We chose the 4-course sumptuous meal that began with a unique blend of fresh veggies and citrus in a puree and chilled just past room temperature. I liked that as did my bride because it was cool to the taste yet not frozen so that taste would have been hidden by frostbite. There was a fresh salad, I mean f.r.e.s.h. salad with nary a limp anything to be found. And the entrees were Whitefish and chicken each done is a very unique and special presentation.

No, it is not the Cape Cod Room, but it sure is worth the trip if you are on the isle. The Woods next door was our first sumptuous feast on the isle in 2001 and now in 2014 we have to say that the Cudahy Chop House was just exceptional. Good choice of wines. We opted for the Kendall Jackson Vintners Reserve Sauvignon Blanc and it was such an excellent choice for both the chicken and the whitefish.

Just delightful. really, no kidding.

“great food with a great view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

We enjoyed the 4 course prix fixe dinner while staying 2 nights at the Inn at Stonecliffe. The Inn & restaurant have old world charm. Great service, a wonderful view across the grounds, a fabulous meal and a beautifully set table with proper tablecloths befitting a great dinner. (unlike the Woods with it's paper tablecloths for goodness sakes)

“Great View Isn't Quite Enough.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2013

The Inn at Stonecliffe exudes romance. It hosts many weddings, commitment ceremonies, renewal of vows, and other romantic occasions on grounds overlooking the Straits of Mackinac. The Cudahy Chophouse, the inn's fine dining restaurant, offers extraordinary views of the straits. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to overcome the food and service mistakes the night we were there.
If you go, get a window seat at sunset with direct sightlines to the mighty Mackinac Bridge! The sunset the night we were there was extraordinary! Layers of blue, purple, orange and pink (really, pink!) made for a remarkable set of photos. A serious photographer could enter such photos in competition.
However, the food was inconsistent that night. It started off well, as the kitchen seems to excel with appetizers. The lobster bisque is excellent; the preparation done here to infuse cream in the bisque is not easy. The Caesar salad is notable for the fresh parmesan, which we appreciated.
The entrees did not shine, though. The filet, ordered medium rare, came medium well with a bit too much char for my taste. Whether it was server error or kitchen error, it's still a mistake that we don't expect from a fine dining restaurant that specializes in steaks and chops. And while the bordelaise (mushroom and wine) sauce was first rate, I needed a magnifying glass to locate the drop of blue cheese butter. I would have liked to have tasted it. Similarly, the potato crusted whitefish was so oversalted that the crust had to be removed to eat the dish. The sides (a potato "boat" and creamed spinach with the filet, grilled asparagus with the fish) were tasty, adding further to the inconsistency.
For dessert we shared a "spongecake" with a trio of chocolate mousses (dark, milk, white). The dish lacked flavor; it would have done well with a strawberry coulis, whipped cream, and fresh strawberries on the side.
The restaurant's average score (as opposed to above average) also stems in part from a lack of coordination in service. The restaurant advertised a promotion on the Internet and on cards handed out downtown, but when asked about it, the server was unaware...and there was no promotional menu, either. Also, during our dinner a captain prepared cherries jubilee for other nearby diners. Maybe it was a special, and the captain was unavailable by the time we got to dessert. Did the restaurant think we wouldn't notice when it wasn't listed on the dessert menu or mentioned by the server?
This restaurant has the potential to be great, and other reviewers have written about excellence on other nights. The inconsistencies and mistakes made on the night we dined are easily correctable, and I hope management takes the time to do so before the restaurant reopens for next season.

“Outstanding meals!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2013

The Cudahy Chophouse is elegant. The food is Outstanding and the waitstaff very well trained. The chef makes a special dish each night. Although, it is elegant...it is also casual. We had 6 for dinner the first night and everyone said it was the meal they have ever had on the island. Ages were from 13-52. They were very accommodating to our 13 year old. Even if you don't stay at Stonecliff, a meal at Cudahy Chophouse is well worth the trip! As well as the view...Amazing!
