“Awesome Trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2009

We chose Main Street Inn & Suites based solely on the reviews I read here, the appearance of the rooms on-line, and the cost. We couldn't be more pleased with our experience.

Right from the start, it was a pleasant experience. The outside of the building is beautiful with well-cared for flowers and painted a warm yellow color. The covered entrance way with benches and electrical outlets were utilized by many and provided some much needed outside seating on Main Street, which is lacking. The lobby is small, but tastefully appointed. The staff were polite and helpful, keeping our myriad of belongings for us prior to check-in.

The room was $90 a night (off-season rates) and it was beautiful, calm and inviting. It had a window facing the back of the hotel. It was spotlessly clean and provided the usual amenities: king-sized bed, iron and board, blow dryer, fridge, coffee maker. Probably the best part of the room (aside from the cleanliness) was the sitting area. It included a wicker chair, end table, and love seat facing an armoire containing the TV. We especially enjoyed being able to sit down (not on the bed) and relax after the heavy physical activity of exploring the Island. Plus the extra room kept us from feeling claustrophobic.

The bed was super comfortable (I believe it was a pillow top) and even my husband commented on what a good night's sleep he got. It had three pillows on it and I appreciated the extra pillow and case I found in the closet as we sleep with two pillows each - nice touch. This hotel is full of nice touches.

There is a very comfortable game room with a pool table and a card table which we wanted to utlize but never found the time.

The stopper in the tub wouldn't close so I called the front desk and within 20 minutes someone came up and fixed it for me.

Also, I had read reviews for many of the other hotels I was considering about how noisy the halls are and that you can hear the people in the next room. Our room was completely silent. We heard nothing from the hallway or the other rooms.

Someone else who reviewed this hotel had mentioned that they leave the doors open to the empty rooms so you can see the amenities and how they're decorated. I found that to be true and couldn't resist checking some of them out. They were all beautiful, but each was different, which was cool. By checking them out, I could see the value of having a room facing the front of the hotel so I could see the lake, I made a mental note to ask for one next time I come to the Island.

I'm sure there are a lot of nice B&B's and other hotels on the Island, but I was so pleased with Main Street Inn that I see no reason to stay anywhere else next time I visit.

Oh also, we brought our own bicycles and the hotel lets you take them on the elevator down to the basement where they have a bike rack for storage. This was wonderful as it rained a lot of the time we were there and our bikes stayed dry.

Main Street Inn & Suites thought of everything. Awesome experience!

We decided to go to Mackinac Island for our honeymoon, since we're waiting until winter to go on a tropical getaway. We chose this hotel because of the reviews on this site, and were not dissapointed!! The rooms are very clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The location was perfect, right across from the ferry dock, so it was only a short walk across the street to our hotel. You really can't beat the price for the quality of the rooms and service you get. We were quite surprised that the average age of the visitors on the island was around retired age, maybe because of the time of year we went. We were actually a little worried there wouldn't be much for us to do at night, but we found out the island has alot of night life as well as day time activities so it kept us busy most of the time. I would definitely recommend renting bikes and taking them around the island, it's a pretty easy 8 mile ride. Wednesday nights at the Pink Pony are great too. There's an great show there, just a guy with his guitar but he can sing almost anything! There are a ton of places to eat and we weren't dissapointed by any. We ate at the Pancake house for a cheap breakfast, since we liked to splurge for dinner. We had dinner at Stonecliff one night and it's really beautiful there, i recommend it for a romantic evening :) You have to take a taxi there though, way too far to walk! It's a little noisy and overwhelming during the day but if you get away from the main street it's very quiet and relaxing. We walked around just after sunset quite a bit as well since the ferry's had left and it was much quieter. Hope this helps!!

I'd like to second all the wonderful reviews of this great hotel. We stayed in Room 310 which is a one bedroom suite - very spacious with a great view of Main Street and the waterfront. The suite was very clean, pretty and comfortable. Receiving a small box of fudge at turn-down service was an unexcpected surprise. The day staff were very friendly and efficient. We would definitely stay at the Main Street Inn again and will recommend it to any of our friends who travel there.

We also stayed at this hotel based on the tripadvisor reviews. The reviews were spot on! This hotel is just beautiful inside, our room was huge and the staff was as nice as could be! Everything felt very new inside. We loved being right on Main Street for the people and horse watching. Things quiet down pretty early in the evening so noise was not an issue. The hotel also maintains quiet hours inside from 11 PM - 10 AM.

In addition to all of the great peoplewatching, we had an excellent view of the harbor and enjoyed watching the ferries come and go. We traveled here with our 3 year old and he was over the moon with everything there was to see from our balcony. The fort and the Butterfly House are an easy walk from the hotel. I like to try different hotels when I travel but my husband is already insisting that we come back here next time we are on the island. We highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed in this hotel based on tripadvisor reviews. We thought it was great. It was just across the street from Shepler's Ferry which is what we used to get to the island and it was conveniently located close to all of the carriage rides, shops and restaurants on Main Street. We even walked to the fort from our hotel. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The decor of our room was delightful. The beds were great. In the evening, the maid came to our room to give us turn-down service and she gave us a small box of fudge, which is a speciality of the island. I guess our only complaint, and it's small, was that the hotel didn't offer breakfast. We did go just next door to a small diner for breakfast and it was great. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We were so pleased with Main Street Inn & Suites. It is small, but very well done and the staff was terrific. We stayed in 209 - a lovely suite with a small balcony which faced the Main Street and the harbor. The furnishings were comfortable and the rooms well decorated with beautiful fabrics. Nice linens and amenities. It is a central location - you can walk or ride a bike anywhere - we enjoyed a great visit and were glad that we chose this hotel and followed Trip Advisor recommendations.

The staff , everyone from the reservationist, to the front desk to housekeeping, was more than pleased to assist us in anyway we needed,

The only negative was that the HVAC was located between the two rooms, and while the temperature was just perfect in one room, it got too warm in the other.

First time to the island for all of us; mom and three sisters. We're all over 50, have traveled quite a bit and are fairly discriminating. We loved everything about Main Street Inn and Suites including its great locatioin right on Main Street. We could easily walk to all the wonderful shopping and eating establishments and we even walked to the Grand Hotel - the darling front desk gal showed us a shortcut out the back exit. We had two rooms; a two-room, two-bed suite with a balcony overlooking Main Street (#307) and a standard deluxe two-bed room with a window (#303). My sisters were in the standard deluxe room and one said "the location was great, the room was modern and decorated well, great help at the front desk, good comfortable beds and pillows. I truly cannot think of one dislike about the room! Good choice." The 307 suite was also wonderful: ceiling fans in the spacious sitting room and in the bedroom, air conditioning that was modern and digitally controled, good lighting, wi-fi, tv's in both sitting and bedroom, beautiful french doors out to the balcony, open kitchen area with plenty of cupboard space to keep all our goodies and very clean. Service was great, fudge every night was awesome, and our bags (11 total) were transported to the hotel from Shepler's Ferry upon arrival and tagged and transported back to Shepler's upon departure. Wonderful, excellent service in all ways! There are only a couple of things that others may find annoying about having a room overlooking Main Street. (1) Our visit was in September at the end of the season. There was very little early morning or late night noise, but I could imagine that it might be overwhelming at the height of the season. (2) The horse traffic is charming and I loved it, but my Mom and one sister were a little put off by the horse smells when standing on the balcony. Mackinac does an excellent job of cleaning up after the horses on a regular basis, but some people may not be able to fully enjoy the balcony if they're sensitive to horse smells. (3) There is no screen on the French door so if you leave it open you will get bugs in your room. We used a very clever fly swatter (folded newspaper) and had no problem getting rid of the little buggers. There is a window that opens to the balcony that is screened if fresh air is wanted without opening the French door. (4) From the hallway, suite 307 opens directly into the bedroom area and one of the two very comfortable beds faces the door. The only problem with this is that when lying in that particular bed you can see the hallway lights shining through the frame of the door which is a bit distracting in a dark room. This is the only reason I gave a "4" rating to the rooms category. Otherwise, everything was wonderful and we all agreed we'll be back to the island and to this hotel in particular next year. Thank you Main Street Inn and Suites. Your staff, all of them, were wonderful and your accommodations are first rate!
