We chose Main Street Inn & Suites based solely on the reviews I read here, the appearance of the rooms on-line, and the cost. We couldn't be more pleased with our experience.
Right from the start, it was a pleasant experience. The outside of the building is beautiful with well-cared for flowers and painted a warm yellow color. The covered entrance way with benches and electrical outlets were utilized by many and provided some much needed outside seating on Main Street, which is lacking. The lobby is small, but tastefully appointed. The staff were polite and helpful, keeping our myriad of belongings for us prior to check-in.
The room was $90 a night (off-season rates) and it was beautiful, calm and inviting. It had a window facing the back of the hotel. It was spotlessly clean and provided the usual amenities: king-sized bed, iron and board, blow dryer, fridge, coffee maker. Probably the best part of the room (aside from the cleanliness) was the sitting area. It included a wicker chair, end table, and love seat facing an armoire containing the TV. We especially enjoyed being able to sit down (not on the bed) and relax after the heavy physical activity of exploring the Island. Plus the extra room kept us from feeling claustrophobic.
The bed was super comfortable (I believe it was a pillow top) and even my husband commented on what a good night's sleep he got. It had three pillows on it and I appreciated the extra pillow and case I found in the closet as we sleep with two pillows each - nice touch. This hotel is full of nice touches.
There is a very comfortable game room with a pool table and a card table which we wanted to utlize but never found the time.
The stopper in the tub wouldn't close so I called the front desk and within 20 minutes someone came up and fixed it for me.
Also, I had read reviews for many of the other hotels I was considering about how noisy the halls are and that you can hear the people in the next room. Our room was completely silent. We heard nothing from the hallway or the other rooms.
Someone else who reviewed this hotel had mentioned that they leave the doors open to the empty rooms so you can see the amenities and how they're decorated. I found that to be true and couldn't resist checking some of them out. They were all beautiful, but each was different, which was cool. By checking them out, I could see the value of having a room facing the front of the hotel so I could see the lake, I made a mental note to ask for one next time I come to the Island.
I'm sure there are a lot of nice B&B's and other hotels on the Island, but I was so pleased with Main Street Inn that I see no reason to stay anywhere else next time I visit.
Oh also, we brought our own bicycles and the hotel lets you take them on the elevator down to the basement where they have a bike rack for storage. This was wonderful as it rained a lot of the time we were there and our bikes stayed dry.
Main Street Inn & Suites thought of everything. Awesome experience!
