Prices are steep but this is all part of the tourist attraction ... 'you are a fudgie and don't forget it!' I had a Prime Rib on Sourdough bread and it was wonderful. My wife had a ''whitefish' sandwich and it was not as good as expected. On the Great Lakes you expect fresh fish but this was a fish patty like you might get at McDonalds. You have to ask~! The server was friendly (as all Mackinaw Island Summer Help) and the food was served promptly. The decor was 'Early American Tavern' and well done.

We had the most personable and friendly waiter. She was most helpful in recommending dinner selections and was prompt and efficient. I had the Shrimp & Mussels Diablo, which was excellent, tasty firm shrimp and delicious mussels. Others in our party had the walnut summer salad and Atlantic Salmon, both of which were excellent. Prices here were reasonable--or as reasonable as anything on Mackinac Island gets. Our best meal on the island.

There were 4 of us and we chose highly rated restaurants. The Yankee Rebel Tavern was one of them and it lived up to the ratings of those who had eaten there in the past.

Our server was excellent. Knowledgeable about the menu selection, accommodating with special requests, attentive to drink refills, and prompt with clearing empty dishes. The filet mignon was tender, but the flavor was average. They were serving a seafood sampler special that contained scallops, shrimp, whitefish, and crab. The whitefish and scallops were good with fresh lemon juice. The shrimp had that rubbery quality when it has been over boiled. I did appreciate the decorating details such as a table candles and chairs. Just be ready: with 2 entrees, drinks, dessert, and a tip you can expect to pay close to what it would cost for 2 people to eat the grand luncheon buffet at the Grand Hotel.

The open prime rib sandwich that we saw listed on the menu drew us into the restaurant. If you stop by here, you definitely need to try it; it was a favorite at our table. The pot roast sandwich was also a big hit as well. Another person in our group ordered a salad with salmon and said the salmon was one of the best prepared salmon dishes that she had ever had. Our server was absolutely charming and engaging. She answered all sorts of questions and shared info with us about the island.
