The Fort is very well preserved and the exhibits are interesting and accurate. Excavation is ongoing and happening before the visitor's eyes! There are cannon and musket demonstrations and people dressed up to represent characters from the Fort's history. The view of the Lake is beautiful and the gardens are lovely as well. I would definitely recommend visiting this historical Fort.

“Fun Visit”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

First off, you're right next to the Lake and the bridge and the view is spectacular! We love history and this place was full of it. I don't really feel like you could spend an entire day here but it's a pleasant way to spend a few hours. We were especially impressed by the blacksmith and the the woman cooking in one of the buildings. They cook the vegetables they grow outside of the buildings and we asked her to identify one of the beans she had on the table. She told us what they were and cheerfully told us we could try them out. Just a neat little touch. One benefit over the fort on Mackinac Island is that there are a few more people in period costume, including one adorable little boy playing with a hoop and stick toy. There is ongoing archaeology which some people may count as a negative but we enjoyed seeing the work being done. Save money by buying the Heritage pass for $75 and visit the fort on Mackinac Island, the art museum on the Island, the lighthouse next to Colonial Michilimackinac, and Historic Mill Creek nearby. The pass is valid all season for two adults and all dependent children. This is a decent savings for a family. One note, very little children may not be as interested in the history.

“Great peek into history”

History will buffs will love this historic village. Picturesque with plenty of photo opportunities. The canon demonstration was very interesting and the interpreters were informative and friendly.

“History before your eyes”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

Accurately restored colonial fort based on archeology continuously conducted since the 1950s. I have visited several times but keep coming back to see the progress. I enjoy talking with the on-site archeologists actually conducting the digging. They are more than happy to explain what they are doing and show you what they are finding. Plenty of activities for the kids including musket and cannon firings, clothes to try on, helping prepare a colonial meal and more. I normally would give five stars but the interpretative staff is a little sparse right now as much of the summer staff are college students. If you want the best experience with the costumed interpreters, go before college starts

“More history”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

If you're a history buff, here is another segment of the straits area. I personally liked the scenery of the bridge when you first enter. Talk about up close and personal. As you stroll the shoreline to the fort, actors are present to give a history lessen (these continue throughout all the fort's buildings) and even a musket demonstration. The buildings show the day to day lives of the three nations that occupied the fort throughout the years and is very interesting. Pack a lunch, I do not recall a place that serves food there.
